Hi, I need some help with setting up my home theater. I would use it to watch movies and cable TV mainly. Music / FM 10%. I would even be happy with HTIB but am not sure what to look for. I have a 22x11 room and do not want to spend more than Rs.35K . I generally watch English movies (drama) with lot of focus on dialogues and am told this always comes from the center speaker. Since the distance from center speaker to seating area is quite a bit (about 20ft), I need something which will give me the required effect. I did check out Yamaha YHT 196, 21K, Onkyo HTS 3400, 27K and Pioneer HTP 071, 21K and sony/phillips HTIBs also. But i really need some good advice as I can not figure out what will work as i am not a gizmo freak or tech savvy and auditions don't give a real case scenario. And also don't want to end up spending a bomb and not have what i need.
Also what is a good place to buy from in Mumbai.
Pleaaaaaase help!:sos:

Onkyo 3500 or Denon 1312XP will suite your needs. If you don't need surround and subwoofer speakers then lookf for an AVR and a pair of bookshelves for the fronts and a center channel speaker. But this will increase the budget considerabley.

I think the whole 5.1 system is an added advantage for those times when you get together and watch movies with the effects. So I would wants that package. But am not sure if I should go in for a Packaged HTIB or separate amp and speakers. Also don't know of any place which will give proper advice and not show me only what they want to sell.

22x11 room . with you sitting 20 feet away from the TV
You've got to look beyond HTIB's - you may need to push your budget up as well.

HTIB is the best bang for buck....but will not do justice to your room size. You need to go for separates, maybe just the AVR + 2 good front speakers but even for that you would need to extend your budget a bit.

you can use used/non used non hdmi avr..can be had very cheap..from onkyo/denon/yamaha......a powerful centre channel,a sub/fronts
for new gear budget will increase.....

buy rest later..20 ft is a good distance to deal with

How is Onkyo 5400 (7.1) or 5500. Is it worth paying about 6000/- more for the 5500? And will the 7.1 system be significantly better for my type of room? And by the way I definitely need the surround.
