Can one sound card give simultaneous connections :
analog to stereo amp and HDMI to AV reciever , with uncompromised quality ?
Or how to take HDMI from PC ; sound card or graphic card for movies ?
thnks
sirjee i hope I can give a decent answer to your question provided your question is really as simplistic as it appears.....
1. make any item default player (any soundcard in case of mulitple soundcards - say I have a asus m3n783m hdmi and realtek optical& analog onboard)
2. I use MPC-HC for movie playback using HDMI digital for audio output (you can chose soundcard/audio out in MPC-HC). This is say for normal movie playback via tv bypassing the AVR (hence audio + video through hdmi to TV). I can chose realtek digital optical out for 5.1 movies through avr (changing output in mpc-hc)
3. I use cyberlink for 5.1 digital optical out for dvd movies to avr (you can chose audio out here too).
4. I use cplay for asio digital optical out (realtek) to AVR for music (chose output)
5. I use winamp/foobar for wasapi out from pc/dell laptop for optical digital out to DAC. I use usb connection (USB default soundcard in case of DAC).
Net net you can choose the souncard/default audio out for each SW application - hence you cvan use say HDMI sometimes, analog or digital out sometimes. The mobos with optical/coaxial/analog & hdmi can be set through different applications. The same is true for soundcard.
PS: Note you may not be able to use all of them at the same time.
@bazee - when using the hdmi (for my mobo) the analog sections or realtek is not used at all. HDMI solution is inbuilt in the mobo architecture (present latest versions of soundcards from ATI and nvidia) - digital signals can pass directly bypassing the other integrated SC realtek. Ditto for most SCs.
In case of a graphics card (present 5 series for ATI and certain recent versions of nvida) a requisite driver from ATI/Nvidia enables it to bypass SC completely and pass the signal via HDMi - some HDCP @@#@# - blame the fools in the movie industry !!!
