Bangalore HFV Members - I can't seem to be getting my hands on Isopropyl Alcohol in Bangalore. My person went looking for this in many places. He was told that Isopropyl Alcohol is not available anymore in the market.

Please can you suggest a confirmed place where I can purchase this in Bangalore? Alternative places will also be appreciated.

Need this for Vinyl cleaning.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers...

I find it hard to believe it was not available at SP road. In ritchie street, its there in almost every other shop. Maybe he should have asked for IPA. when I asked for isopropyl alcohol. most shops had no idea what I was talking about!

You will get it Avenue road. The very first left hand side building where there is lot of book shop. You need to get inside and take a staircase to 1st floor there u will get a who deals with all laboratory equipments.

I buy from Vassa Scientific Supplies. They are on Avenue Rd. as well as in some other place in bangalore...You can call them and check before going..always had it in my experience...

I ran into the same problem in Trivandrum some years ago. All I did was when I went for an old boys meeting to my good old school, I checked out where they procured their lab stock from. Went there and bought a bottle off the counter. It was as simple as that.

All glass cleaners are made with IPA. they also have other mild particle free surfactants which help remove sticky dirt and oils. Products like Colin etc. wouldn't they work?

In ritchie street? I never thought they did. Any specific shop(s), please....:sos:

Just walk in and look to the shops on the left - the road (Labelled Narasingapuram street on Google maps) where delta peripherals is - you'll see a lot of shops with big plastic bottles labelled IPA on the shelves

You will get it in any lab equipment supply shops. you will also have the option of different quality IPA in such stores. Buy the best. Records should be looked after well and let us give them the best

Yeah its nothing but common spirit that a doctor uses to sterilise the skin before giving an injection :)
I was also searching for it since a few days and finally got hold of it yesterday. The chemist was an "educated " guy and he educated me on this.

Be careful with Medical Spirit. ..I have damaged one of my records to it. The record lost its shine and never sounded same. Tried cleaning it afterwards with a lot of different methods ..went to the extreme end of using Fevicol.....
But no use..lost it for good. :(

Thanks for the caution. I definitly do not want Records to be damaged.

I do not intend to use only the spirit to clean records. It will be a mix with distilled water and IPA.

Ask for Propan 2 OL instead. You will find it at any laboratory chemical shop in 500 ML bottle onward. You can also get it at paint shop as NC thinner but do not expect good quality, free of moisture and dirt. The propan 2 ol would be of lab grade and packed by Glaxo (Qualigens) Renbaxy etc.
