Hi,
If you want experience the real stuff of your HT, then always go for Bluray discs or atleast DVD's. DVD discs might not have great picture quality, but most of them have good audio.
I don't thing its fair to judge a system by playing downloaded content irrespective whether the source has 5.1 channel output or not. Atleast for judging a system, you need a good quality 5.1 Bluray / dvd disk. None of the downloaded content can match the sound quality of an original disk. Hope this helps.

Yeah guys u are right. I checked & found the Gravity's audio channel is 2(stereo) & not only that, all the yify movies have 2 channels 
(that was a bummer)

You're absolutely right. Unfortunately i dont own any bluray dvds at this moment. Hence my only refuge is to bank upon the downloaded content :sad:
But the problem is most of my movies are downloaded from the net & i dont think i will be able to afford to buy most of their blu ray disks .. not at this point for sure. I can download their 5.1 bluray rips, but as u said it wouldn't match upto the actual bluray disk. So i think its also important to check how the system is doing with the source that i can afford at this point of time.

Most of the sellers that I have mentioned above have bd players and they will be able to give you a demo. But its better to ask them before going too. Out of all the sellers I mentioned, only Promises did not have a bd player.

I wanted to buy the YHT-299 . It seems no one seems to have this in stock any more. Neither vijay sales nor reliance digital.
I purchased online from ebay seller but he called saying no stock and reversed the transaction.
Has anyone purchased from any other Yamaha dealer lately where I can enquire.

2 days back it was available @34K on ebay and now I couldn't find that listing (may be out of stock) the available ones are costly but not sure they are in stock or not (like you have faced recently).
Called to a local dealer and his price was 38.5K

When I ordered, only display piece was available in Chennai. He requested me to take it for a discount. I refused. He said there is no other stock in Chennai. I said I can wait. Then he found stock in Kerala and it would take ten days. I ordered. On ninth day, he says that the package arrived with damage. He said he will bring it from Pune now. He has asked for another one week. Expecting it on Monday.
Hope it arrives.

I had actually ordered with the guy who was selling it at 34 K ( 10 days back )
He didnt reply or ship for 5 days and then called in to say its unavailable.
I guess its time to find an alternative in similar price range . Suggestions anyone.

Today i listened to the YHT-299 ar Reliance & here is my opinion (I'm not an audiophile, just an admirer of music) -
Music was really amazing. crisp & clear. the bass & treble were pretty good. all in all i was really impressed with the music. :clapping:
Movies - here's something that let me down. I played Gravity (1080p YIFY) without subtitle using a pendrive through a sony bluray player.
The dialogs at the beginning were a little unclear, but thats not a deal breaker given the centre speaker & the sub weren't placed properly. and it sounded pretty much the same as it was when i watched the movie at Cinemax.
The main ISSUE was in an action scene when the volume rose i could hear popping sound from the speakers/sub (cant be sure). The salesman said that its an issue with the "content" & nothing to do with the avr. :sad:
The owners of yht-299, can u tell me whether you have faced such an issue with your set ? & is this what is known as "Clipping" ?
Due to a connection issue they couldn't give me a demo of Pioneer HTP-323 & asked me to come back tomorrow.
You can go with Yht-299 if it's available. I don't see any popping sound in Yht-299. But htp-323 subwoofer has popping sound issue. I used to own a htp-323, then I replaced with Yht-299 after a long wait. It's worth it buddy....

.. I made few modifications and the installation guys came..I was not at home at that time, but they didn't change any settings, they kept the same setting which I had already... I was thinking to try the YPAO and see what changes it makes ..Sandeep,
Regarding the settings,
Front L&R 4.5 db
Center 4 db
Surround L&R 4.5 db
Subwoofer 6.5 db
May be you can change it and find it out , for YPAO am going to note down the current settings and use it and compare the settings.

I have used YPAO when I have bought the system. In my old house, the main living room was a smaller one and it is a closed room. So, YPAO gave me good results. After shifting homes, I have had a bigger living room and it is not really closed. Moreover, Living room has lots of items. In this room I was not really happy with the settings that YPAO has given me. I guess, it works fine when you are using it in a relatively closed room with not many objects.
So, In the new home I have gone for manual settings.

oh yes.. I guess its a good enough deal.. Since there are lesser stocks available even the dealers would look to make most of what they have.. I guess the prices will be in similar range with most of the dealers who still have few stocks left..
