Just bought Yamaha YHT-299

Congratulations :clapping: !! From where, and How much ?

Which other HTs did you consider, and how did the 299 make it to the top?

Congrats!! From where and how much did it cost?

Purchased it @35.8K with "The Green Hornet" 3D Blu-ray FREE hyeah:

Purchased it from a Local Yamaha Dealer, I was sure what would be great in my budget so not spent lot of time in checking various systems.

P.S. If anybody has plan to buy YHT-299 then it's a right time to get one. Otherwise you have to pay more and get less.

Also seen Yamaha 2014 catalog which has 3 HTB systems
1. YHT 196 (29K-30K))
2. Not remember the model but price was around 35K-37K (which will be replacement of YHT-299 by price), it has same 5 speakers of YHT-299 but PASSIVE Sub of YHT-196 with some additional featured AVR
3. YHT-2910 (47K) Mostly YHT-299

Yht-299 has DTS, I was watching the scorpion king blu-Ray today. It played in DTS

Yes PGY. It indeed has it. And it has dolby digital too. Not sure why the comparsion specification showed it that way though..

True... I checked in landmark yesterday for blu rays. They have 70% discount on almost everything . But the collections are not so good. You can pickup a couple of movies for just testing purpose that's it .

If you want, give a try ...

Thank you PGY. Yes I have visited the Somajiguda store last friday.. Although the collection is less they have offers on some decent titles. I took Source Code Blu ray for as low as 138/- :lol: I will visit the store again today..

Hii Guys nice reviews but i want to know is YHT 299 VFM in the manner of music well actually i like music more than movies and everyday i listen music (Bollywood, Punjabi, English) so is it good choice to go for 299. And how about the bass coming from the sub. is the bass noticeable by the neighbors or only we can notice that.

Guys, pls. tell me one thing. Heard that AVRs usually suffer with heating issues. Even heard cases of AVRs stopped due to overheat, especially while playing 1080p movies. Did any one of you faced any such issue with yht-299 while playing 1080p movies ( not 1080i movies from DTH). Did anyone watched couple of 1080p 3D movies continuously without any issues.

Basically I am asking this because I will be using this more for movies than music. Just wanted to check of any known issues in playing 1080p 3D movies.

Also kindly suggest some decent compatible blu ray player around 10k.

With YHT 299, I never found the AVR to be Over heated. I have seen lots of 1080P movies continuously. Lord of The Rings Trilogy, The Matrix Trilogy, The Dark Knight Trilogy etc. Of them, Lord of the rings was done on a single day. I do watch lots of tv series continuously too. I have never played a 3d movie since my tv does not support 3d content.

Although AVR gets hot, never noticed it to be overhot. So, it was never really a concern for me. Also, I have made sure that there is enough space for AVR to get some air. It is not crammed in small rack where nothing else will fit in. These are some of the tips that I learned through this forum.

Hi Sam,

It is good for music. But I am not sure if it is VFM. Bass is decent. There is a feature for extra bass. If you switch that on, the Bass is pretty good. Also, it depends on the source that you are playing. FLAC's are really good, 320 kbps are also decent. But make sure to have a demo of it before you take a decision. Carry some of the songs that you listen frequently in a USB drive and ask the store guy to play from that USB.

Well.. I dont know much about yht 196.. So cant really comment on it.. Just try out with any other options in similar price range.. Onkyo S3500 and pioneer rs 33 are which come to mind immediately. But then, pioneer rs 33 has a poppung sound issue fron sub woofer and onkyo's AVR has heating issues.

How did you play music in yht196 via usb. It doen not have usb function. Sattelites generally are not good for high quality music output but not bad either for casual listening.

The bass is pretty good. Not sure whether it will blow the neighbors windows :0, IMO it's good and I have tested a couple of times that the sound is going out of the house, because I live in a apt and it's so silent and I always concerned not to disturb others. The sound never goes out of house .

The bass is pretty much noticeable and mainly it goes along with wat we watch or listen.

I never had any heating issues in the avr, I almost use 8 to 10 hours everyday using multiple sources. It behaves normal..

Am not sure about the chennai price, but its a good price compared to HYD. Most of the places YHT-299 is not available due to the upcoming models. Hopefully some one from chennai can help you out in the price.

Can't agree more with you PGY. I think at this price range, this is probably better than most. It also gives you the flexibility to upgrade your speakers in the future. So, Best bet at this price range especially at this hour (with the scarcity).
