Just bought Yamaha YHT-299

right source bole to?????:sos:
A good format of audio & video,
You always find a difference in quality, Example you can always find difference between the one which downloaded from internet and Blu-ray discs. Same with Audio, you will always find difference in regular mp3 file with poor audio quality and a mp3 file which is 192kbps or through an audio cd :).

Well, for music the best possible format is flac. Although the file size is a bit on the higher side (each song will usually be more that 35 mb), the output just fantastic. I have an old audio cd of Prema Desam (A.R.Rahman). I have used Exact Audio Copy (EAC) to get flac files from that cd. The result is just simply astounding. And with YHT 299 it sounded even better.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

Sandeep,

How do you play FLAC files ? I never tried flac files.

After some trouble I finally managed to buy the 299 online @ Rs 36,500 . Since I am in Mumbai I had to pay octroi of Rs 2000 . Had factored that into the price .
I know this is not the lowest price but I didn't find anyone / any other store which had an unopened piece to sell . One of the Reliance Digital store had but a demo piece .

Connected it over the weekend and am more than satisfied with the product .

Here is My Final Setup

Sony Bravia 40 inch Tv
YHT - 299 Home Theatre.
Asus Oplay HD media player ( 2 TB Drive inside ) . Can play any file format over Wifi also.
AirMusic Player ( Purchased of Ebay.COM ) for Airplaying via iPhone / iPad. This is similar to the Airport Express but cheaper .
Videocon HD STB for Tv.

Hi PGY,

On PC, FLAC's can be played using vlc or foobar. Foobar is a very good player which gives lots of options. And if you want play back through AVR's USB port, YHT 299's AVR does not recognize flac's. Infact most of the AVR's do not recognize flac files.
However, Most of the blu ray players recognize FLAC files. I connect my USB drive to my Phillips Blu ray player and it is giving me very good results.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

Thanks Sandeep,

I dont use the Blu-ray player since i use PS3 to play Blu-ray discs. May be ill try to download some flac files and check whether the PS3 recognizes it or i have to try in the blu-ray player :)..

Congratulations on your new purchase. I am sure you will enjoy the system.

Congratulations on your purchase!! I have been thinking about buying one myself and after reading a few posts on this forum seems like it won't turn me down. But recently, I came across YHT-399u on the internet and the specs are a tad better than the 299 and it comes for almost the same price(will ask a friend to get it from abroad). Do you guys think I should buy it? Is it worth it or should I just buy a 299?

You will need to pay Duty getting it in India . Its too big an item to try sneaking in . When getting in the Customs will not accept your purchase price abroad . They will charge Duty on the price of the said product in India .
Maybe the US Yamahas only work on 110 V . SO you might need the converter also . Plus the added headaches of warranty . Simply not worth the trouble . Its ok to get laptops , tablet pcs , clothes , shoes or small items. Bulky AV items , Nope.

Thanks to all the members for their helpful & prompt replies !!
But I still got one favor to ask. Since i am going to shift to a new apartment in the coming month, i need some ideas as to how to setup the avr & tv. (especially how to hide the wires)
So if its not too much of a trouble, can some of the current owners post some pics of their "entertainment zones".
Thanks :)

my Yamaha yht 299 had power failure for the second time, the yamaha service guys are adamant that there is a power fluctuation problem with my power plug. I had hooked it belkin surge guard, but still it had the problem. The service guy have taken it for 2nd time for repairs. should i invest in a v guard stabilizer, there is a mini version on flipkart for 1350k,will it suffice my needs?

Yes it is always good to have stabilizer for electronics, I suppose YHT-299 has inbuilt power failure circuit but really not sure, have to check on this. You can go for V guard crystal plus because in future we can add some additional appliance to it. I'm planning to buy vguard crystal plus since I have to connect 42 inch tv, dth, blu ray, HT. ;)

I received my Yamaha YHT 299 just few days back and it failed with low voltage yesterday. Reliance ResQ guy came in evening and fixed it on the spot. He said AVR has some protection circuit for voltage fluctuation which will put AVR to some safe mode (it won't power on). He worked only few minutes and fixed it on the spot. He insisted to buy a stabilizer (Surge protector won't be enough).

I have V guard crystal plus to protect 47" 3D TV & DTH. That service guy suggested me to get another 1KVA stabilizer for my HT, bluray & Xbox. I have got belkin surge protector recently. But he said that we need stabilizer to handle low volatage.

This group seems active and you guys are helping.

I want to buy swivel wall mount for speakers. Any suggestions? :sos:

Found one on Ebay. Not sure of quality. Does anybody has this?

Is anybody from Chennai? Your recommended stores for Speaker wall mount?

Planning to go to Ritchie street in search of Speaker stand. Your suggestion could save my search. Thanks

Hi Siva,

Thanks for your inputs on the stabilizer. Now, you got me worried. I am using Belkin Surge Protector but I am thinking of getting a stabilizer now. Just dont want to get in the mess of calling the ResQ or Yamaha guys if something goes wrong.

I have got my speakers fixed to the wall. Never really thought of speaker stands. Do give us some pics if you get them and let us know if there is any difference after using them.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

@Sandeep.. Now, I've connected HT to my old stabiliser itself.. So, now one v-guard crystal plus stabiliser powers my TV, HT & DTH STB. Tried max volume in HT. No issues at all. I'm rethinking, to avoid another stabiliser. Which stabiliser do you use?

Hi Siva,

I am not using any stabiliser as of now. All I got is 8 Pin Belkin Surge Protector. I am thinking of buying a stabilser.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

In India stabilizer is very important as fluctuations are very likely to happen.Surge protector works like a fuse, cutting connections when the current is more than a limit.Be mindful that the stabilizer can handle the products with atleast 20% more margin.

You can get cheap stands at jenefas in Ritchie . Price will be less than online ones I guess. It's near canara bank ATM.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
