Just bought Yamaha YHT-299

Folks,

I would like to thank you guys for answering all my queries, I already posted few comments regarding stabilizer and got answers guess you guys did not see it I'm nearly a month old with this forum still playing around to know how things work.

https://copy.com/jkFHyoqqxj22 is a rough picture of my installation, I have not yet put channel for vertical wires leading to receiver I was lazy at end of the day it nearly took 8 hours to finish tis. rear is also similar to front so you can assume the height.

This fully channel work and installation is completely done by me and brother. We bought channel and wires in a local store. Channel costed Rs 35 per length i.e around 2.5 meters and size is 20mm, wire costed Rs 6.

I fought with reliance guys badly since they did not deliver on time. lets ignore this.

Height is around 8 feet do I need to bring little down?
I did not measure wire properly so I had to join a bit of wire near receiver will this cause any problem ?

I was thinking that yht 299 was the most cost effective solution at this budget. Seeing lot of reviews over here, I suggested this to a friend of mine who was about to buy a new System. His Budget was around 30k, and I made him stretch for the budget this. May I know where did u find this combi under 40k? We had rules out all other combinations as every combination we tried were crossing 50k mark.

it was not below 40k mate. it will come between 42k to 45k

When I pull sandisk pen drive, android device I get this error but when I plug nokia phone it work just fine.

looks like drive problem.:confused:

Having benefited from all of you, it is now my turn share my experience.

I bought my YHT-299 last week from Yamaha dealer cum servicing centre in Chembur, Mumbai with following other items:

HDMI Cable-Profigold PROV1202 (2M)
Speaker Cable-Profigold - PGC7159 (instead of originally supplied cable)
Woofer Cable-Acoustic Research AP071(instead of originally supplied cable)

For these cables, I spent about 12k more - for long lasting quality, Mumbai being humid. However I don't advice the same for others.

Connected with
Blue-ray player: Sony-BDP-S4100
Set top box: Tata Sky + HD
TV: Sony - KDL-46W950A

Quality is excellent.

Congratulations on your new Purchase. I am sure you will enjoy it. That was some amount that you have spent on hdmi cables and speaker cables. Please do share your experience after using it for few days with various sources..

Hello Sandeep/Members,

First of all congrats on this purchase. I was also looking for 299 but in Delhi i have searched most of the consumer electronic stores with no joy its not available and seems out of stock.

So now i am thinking about YHT 196 and also auditioned it once with some music tracks.The sub [Passive] performance is not up to the mark but enough for normal listening.

The spec sheet suggest that 196 support Dolby Digital and DTS codecs.I have to connect my Airtel HD DTH which is providing Dolby Digital Plus which seems having higher bit rate and supports 7.1 too though the setup is 5.1.

So is there a significant difference between DD and DDP??

One more model is there between YHT 299 & 196 which is YHT1810 which support Dolby Digital Plus but not sure of sound quality of that.

Is any one using YHT 196 or YHT 1810 with HD DTH Connection then please contribute here so i can take my decision.

In addition of above i would like to know how you connected the YHT 299 setup to power source.

If i get it some how in Delhi then i need this info because i just have one power point on which i have connected a 2 point voltage stabilizer,on 1st point i have LED Connected and on second point i have power strip with multiple ports which i am using to connect my 2.1 system and dth box.

Is it ok to connect the A/V and sub on power strip ?? Instead connecting directly on dedicated point on voltage stabilizer.[just have 2]

My area is prone to power cuts and fluctuation and i just want to make sure that the way i am planning to connect would not harm the equipment.

Just a quick question , while playing the Bluray Disc on your Home Theater , does the Yamaha YHT299 decode DTS-HD Master Audio . What does the Display of the AVR show ... ( DTS HDMA or some sound Mode )

I have heard that Yamaha has quite a lot problems decoding the DTSHD Master Audio :sad: .One of my friend is very keen to know this

I am interested to buy YHT 299, called up Reliance digital they said they don't have stock at Chennai also they don't expect the stock to come in future . Please suggest me any dealer or shop at Chennai

AVR displays DTS - HD whenever a Blu ray with a similar source is played.

I also bought it today in Delhi YHT 299 it is amazing even in default settings....additional 30mtr bandridge cable and one hdmi 4.1 cable....

One time investment and am loving it.
