Recently bought KDlinks HD720 3D media player from USA through Amazon.com for $160. This media player uses the realtek 1186 3D chipset. It has an internal HDD bay and can support 3TB and more hard disk. Supports both DTS and Dolby HD audio pass through and down mix and plays all format video and audio files. Has a built in wifi. The UI is not too good and needs improvement. The remote is ok. Plays 3D files flawless. Have not found any problem except for the UI which looks like being done by a 5 year old child. It is way ahead compared to WDTV.

Sam, I have the same Media Player. Let me take a shot at answering:
1. 3D BD ISOs are supported. All BD ISOs are supported. Branched BDs are also supported
2. BD-Lite menu (non-java) is supported (v1.1 I think). I don't use this, and newer BDs do not have this I think. Let's wait for confirmation from mathan for this, if he uses the same.
3. 2D to 3D- Yes, I have seen this option. However, my PJ can do this (Acer 5370) so do not use this from the mp. Have not used this much at all.
4. Firmware v1.2-Final. Seems stable. I have had no issues.
5. I got it when visiting, so no idea about this. This is not sold by amazon directly, so doubt it. KDLinks might ship directly to India
One thing to be aware of is the limitation of the chipset when transferring files over WAN/ LAN. Pathetic is the word for it. Seems to be hardware limitation and all Realtek 1186 based mps all have this problem. No problem in streaming over network though, only transferring files.

OK Thanks ...since I am seriously considering for a media player I am two way between this and HiMedia ......
BD Lite menu is worthless, all new bds are java based, so that feature as is with almost every media player out there (except few lioke DUNE) is non existant ....
2D to 3D .... a request ... can you test it for me. dont use the projector one ...use the player one and see how good it is ......(I dont see any review, link showcasing this ..)

Found this **official** KDlinks 720 thread on avs forum, loads n loads of problems and solutions and workarounds discussed for this player. A must must read for any one considering this player (like I am) ....... I am on page 6 ..

2D to 3D conversion works good with this player. As I have a 3D TV I did not test it before but tried this with the HD720 now and it works flawless and that I don't see any difference when I used to convert it using my TV. Also it detects any 3d iso files and plays it in 3D content. Wireless is very slow when I tried it but since I use a powerline adapter and connect it through that, the streaming is flawless without any stuttering even for a 40+ GB files. I bought this in USA through Amazon.com when I went there recently.

I would like to purchase kdlinks hd 720. Importing directly from Kdlinks with international shipping, it would take 208 $ which is Rs 13,104. Same item available in Ebay global India at 14,900. Which is reliable out of these two to ship the item from US to India.

I don't think it can be attributed to the Chip. More likely it's an implementation issue.
I do own a media player (reviewed here) based on the same chip, and file transfers rates are very good. In fact for a short while I used it as a Samba server.
Oh btw, I paid less than USD 160 and it does Full HD. But I purchased in China, the country of it's manufacturing.
In mine, I can attach a USB bluetooth keyboard. I can do full web browsing, watch internet TV, stream YouTube and all that. Added bonus is if you are based in China, you can always watch latest movies without paying for it.

Try using NFS instead of SMB for file transferring, It would improve the transfer rate, though not drastically but there will be an improvement ...

I was specifically talking about KDLinks. I can attach a full blown Keyboard, mouse to my WD TV Live as well, stream youtube ....blah blah .... and everything ...... I am just trying to figure everything that KDLink can do as well .....

I just bought a KDLinks HD 720 and have attached a Seagate 3TB HDD to it. For some reason am unable to access the hard drive from my computer. Is there a particular way to see the drive on the laptop. I have not yet formatted the drive, when I try to run the format option in Setup, it shows that no media is connected. I am really worried if the disk will work with the player. Someone please help.

Also, check what is the preferred formatting for the connected HDDs. For instance, my Raspbian would not recognize hard drives formatted in exFAT, had to reformat in NTFS.
I had the same media player an year back, you need to format the drive to NTFS.
