Hi All,
After a hiatus of almost a year or longer, posting in the forum. I got the itch to audition stand mounts for possible upgrade and wanted to look at some of the better BS.
Had heard KEF R300 quite some time back and went to ProFx to listen to them again. Unfortunately, they didn't have them but they did give me an extended demo of the R500 FS. They were driven by NAD 375BEE. I found them to very transparent with a tight bass and they did bring out the bad R.E.M recording I have. The first time I had got a sense that this CD is not well recorded was when I had auditioned Blumenhofer's Big Fun17! So glad the speaker was transparent enough.
However, I found the trebles a tad sharp even for CDs which were well recorded (Simon & Garfunkel's greatest hits) and not sure if it was a function of NAD.
The next stop was Cinebel's at Millers Road where they showed me the C103. I found the mids of C103 to be very nice though transparency was definitely off and not in the league of R500. However, it was driven by Roksan Kandy K2 amp. The staff at Cinbels was very supportive and they did a A/B of C103 with C97 as well as with C91. Going to C97 (FS) brought out muddy bass which over shadows the mids. C91, though nice, were too small.
C103 did indicate a degree of harshness at top end is some of the recordings which was not there in R500.
Wanted to get a view of the fellow members on what is a good match for R300/500? Would Naim Nait 5si be a good match and temper any harsh top end? What do you think of C103?
Looking forward to some inputs on this post.
