Landmark (Infiniti Mall, Andheri W) has kicked off their annual sales. Audio CDs are 70%, 50% or 20% off. They have sale on videos too, and 50 bucks for any foreign magazine. There's a huge bunch of western classical audio CDs at 70%.

The sale ought to be happening at other outlets too. Do check out the nearest Landmark.

Good time to build up your music collection.

Any one from Mumbai or any other cities to help me buying few western classical CD's and shipping it to Coimbatore.??????

thanks in advance.

Hi Vijay,

Just returned from Landmark in Spencer's. They have quite a few classical CDs under 70%, 50% and 20% discounts and even "3 for 2".

I picked up a Kylie DVD for around Rs. 178 (MRP Rs. 600).

Pl browse their online store and send me your list. I can check at both Spencer's and Citi Centre showrooms and send them to you - if they are available under the discount schemes.

Will be going to Citi Centre showroom this evening again.

I had been to the Landmark Sale yesterday, picked up a few CDs. Finding a CD was such a pain. Only Western Classical and Jazz were in marked sections. The rest were all over the place. I noticed that there was no discount on popular artists like Pink Floyd, Dire Straits etc.

I bought a few CDs:
  • Leonard Cohen - Live Songs (Buy 2 get 1 free)
  • Louis Armstong - 2 Albums (No Discount)
  • Edvard Greig - My first Western Classical CD. Seeing the huge collection, I felt I should have read Ajay's thread on Western Classical Music. Not sure why, but I ended up buying this 2 CD Album, Deutsche Grammophon recording.
  • Chandni Raatein (Assorted collection of Indipop romantic numbers. This was free with Item No.1)
  • Two more that I can't remember now:p
LP collection was very less. Mostly Bollywood with 20% off. Guess all the good English LPs were already taken. Thanks to an early bird (arunhc) who called me when the sale opened a few weeks ago, I was able to get 180GM Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms at 20% off :clapping: I already have this LP, but wanted an extra copy;).

I had been to LM koramangala on friday, they are having a huge section with the discounts, but selecting from the lot is a big pain, may take hours to go through all. LP collection is very less, but ended up buying only one "The confluence", my first LP. On seeing the offer prices, I feel its worth spending on a good CD player.

i went there last to last saturday and ended up buying 4500/- worth of CDs. Mostly recordings for which I was not willing to shell out the full 225/- and upwards knowing they woere not worth it, and mostly all the CDs with 70% discount, with a few also having 50% or 20%. I was hapy to buy CDs for 80 rupees onwards :)

Thanks to the OP for the thread :clapping: er.. (on second thoughts) no thanks for burning a hole in my wallet  ;)

Cheers

Went through the entire 10 pages of the western classical collection. Quite simply there is nothing which I would want to buy at the prices mentioned. If one is getting 50% or more discount on these prices then maybe a few CD's would be worth buying. Like most Indian sites selling western classical music the collection is absolutely random, with hardly any memorable recordings. Somehow the best recordings don't seem to make it to Indian shores. Very little thought or design seems to have gone into acquiring the titles. There is hardly any information available about the CD's.

For somebody serious about building a collection for the long run, random 'hoping for the best' purchases is definitely not the way to go. There are several good international sites for buying classical music. I have found Amazon UK to be very satisfactory in terms of reliability, pricing and availability. For a beginner the simplest way would be to search for a particular composer on Amazon. The first two pages would list the most popular and best priced options. Read all the information provided. Many CD's have been reviewed by buyers. Search other sites if Amazon does not have the required information. Know what you are buying before making a buying decision.

Presto Classical is the best site I have come across for western classical music. Less cluttered and more focused than Amazon. Complete information. Surfing by composer, conductor, artist, label etc. Plenty of sales and discounts going on all the time. Unfortunately the very first time I ordered CD's for them, the parcel got misplaced and I never received the CD's. But my money was refunded after the expiry of the delivery period.

Presto Classical - Buy classical CDs, opera CDs, & DVDs online

A simple tip. Before buying check basic information like :
Name of the composer
Name of the artists (especially for chamber music)
Name of the conductor and the orchestra(for orchestral music)
Name of the recording company
Year of original release
Mono/Stereo
Remastering history(maybe that is asking for too much :). You need to spend time on a good search engine to discover that)

If an online site or a salesman in a shop cannot provide MOST of this information, then why buy from them?

I had the same kind of thought (opportunity to buy CDs I would not normally buy), especially western classical.

A serendipitous find was a BBC Music magazine which had a CD stuck to it for 50 bucks.

Yeah, I burnt around that much too.
