Hi - experts please suggest a good monitor big monitor.
Basic use - bigger screen in office which I can show to 5-10 people in a meeting. Some code reviews, excel sheets etc need to be seen by lot of people, so it should be visible from 4-5 ft. I am thinking of 24+ inches size.

Plus it would become a primary display for me to look into, 6-7 hours a day while at work.

Not too much into games but a good response time is welcome.
3D may be a plus once in a while but not that important.

HDMI connectivity is important, high resolution is important.
Speakers again are good to have but not necessary.

Budget - 15k

AOC E2795VH Monitor would be ok for office due to it's size. We use it in our office but reading excel charts from 5ft gives some strain to eyes. It is little bulky and the advantage is the power source is built in and there is no brick like power adapter outside. Videos are good though not seen any movies in it as we usually used it for presentations. The inbuilt speakers are dud and nothing much to talk about. Require external speaker if someone needs to hear from 5 feet clearly. I think it has HDMI and DVI output as well. It is a good monitor for around Rs.18000/-

The dell U2711 is the best ips monitor I have with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 however it costs around 45k. AOC and benq have some great 27 inch ips monitors in the 15 to 25k range however they are 1920 x 1080 only.

I have been looking for this IPS monitor (Dell). Is it available easily? I would like to use it for my Photoshop work. Thanks.

I have the u2711. Purchased for 47k. Looks gorgeous!
It is easily available with dell India a little over 45k. Both the dell and apple 27 inchers use LG ips displays however dell has better connectivity with dvi, d sub, hdmi, displayport inputs as well USB 3.0 ports and portrait mode.

Apple only has the displayport and compatibility issues with no portrait mode.

The dell has a premium panel warranty and comes company calibrated. Great for photoshop. 99 percent RGB color gamut.

great. pls try some movie and game

Tried some of HD movies and the pic quality is very good. This monitor has 2ms response time. There was no lagging in the pic quality and the colors were good. I won't be able to check on the gaming since I do not have the resource for that.

is the strain due to distance, or is it because of shortcomings of the monitor?

This might be subjective since I use spectacles and probably more than 5ft any excel work sheets becomes difficult for me to read in this monitor. You may need to experience that personally. However, when movies were played I did not have any difficulty in reading the sub titles of the movies even from 8ft distance. This is a budget monitor but does not mean that it is inferior in quality. For 17K to 18K this is a good buy.

No lg monitor with the same panel as yet although some cheap Korean monitors using non premium panels are available in USA in 20 to 30k price range.

DO ENSURE that you buy a 4:3 screen and not the wretched 16:9 "widescreen", which is being marketed everywhere these days as the messiah.

A 4:3 screen will allow you to cover more vertical area which reduces scrolling, as well as presents a more spacious look rather than the congested look given by 16:9 screens.

And be certain that the same diagonal (lets say 24") 4:3 screen will be more expensive than a 16:9 because the widescreen has less area to cover compared to a 4:3 (about 20%).

Is there any 27" 4:3 monitor available?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
