Ok, so I dont know which to buy.
I currently use only laptop.
Purpose: Movies mainly. I have HD rips downloaded from internet and would mostly watch those. (Sometimes I may want to watch tv, but thats only 20%)
Size in mind: 32-42 inches

Years ago, I heard some "movies wont play good on TV and TV wont seem better in monitor" argument. Does that still hold?

Monitors bigger than 27" will be hard to find, that was my experience. Other than that if you can get a monitor then you will be able to connect it directly with your STB via HDMI, this negates the need for a TV.
I am assuming you have speakers to get audio from the STB as well. I had exactly the same idea but ended up an LG 32" TV 3 days back because could not find a Monitor bigger than 27" available.

Also check out:
(a) viewing angles on monitors. They used to be worse.
(b) connections - monitors usually have only PC connection

If you dont intend to use the display for computing and the usage is only for movie/tv, get a TV. Monitors generally do not have good view angle. Many of the monitors does not have inbuilt speakers, even if they have, it may not be as good as the ones in the TV.

If you want to use the display for both computing and display, look for some offer where in for a 42 inch TV you may get 22 inch LCD TV free :licklips:

At 32 inch screen size, go for a LCD TV - no two opinions about it. Also, as you say, you mostly watch movies anyways. I will suggest going for a TV model that has USB playback at least. Also, if you want to get a BD player shortly, a couple of HDMI ports will also be useful. Specifically, you can consider two models - LG 32LS3400 and Sony 32EX330/350 - these seem to be the cheapest and best in that category.

Edit - You have not written anything about your computer usage, so I have assumed that you use it mostly to watch movies! Also, you have not indicated a budget. On another note, if you DO use your computer for other purposes too, getting a TV to use as monitor is NOT a good idea.
