LG C9 User Thread (No Price Talk)

I stream 1080p comedy shows and music videos, including some vintage ones, everyday on C9, and they look stunning. Never been better. You can't judge in showrooms because who knows what settings are being used. When professional reviewers are telling you that they are the same, believe it. Infact, C9 scores higher in color gamut and gradient tests too compared to Q70. Compared to the Metz OLED, I feel C9 is indeed better, especially because it's better at NR and separate decontouring filter is there too, which results in a cleaner image; not that I ever felt that the Metz one is looking bad while watching content. Upscaling is done well enough even by cheap TVs. The extra processing features are what differentiate good from bad. C9 is top notch.
@Marakk I would like to thank you for helping me choosing the best TV - LG C9. In fact after installing the TV, 1080 content PQ was same what I saw in the showroom. It is not good. At first I felt disappointed. After few days, I tried some calibration setting as per flatpanelshd. Now, it is much better than Samsung Q70R or any other TV which I saw. Even DTH HD channels are great. I didn't expect such a huge different from this little tuning.

That's great to hear! Enjoy your new set. So many settings can be overwhelming sometimes to get right. If you have any doubts, hit me up here. We can discuss further and experiment. I like tinkering and going against the commonly accepted motions too btw. Watch Our Planet on Netflix. It's glorious to show off the set's capabilities.

The new king IMO to show off OLED panels is the new Lion King (pun intended :p ). Every scene is so so so beautiful.

Grab your 4K HDR copy from your usual sources and have at it.

Haha! I'm on it. ;)

Although, I'm not really that keen on that movie itself. Heard good things about Toy Story 4 too. Will watch it on the weekend.

Btw, I tried Plex via WiFi only. It works well for now. Saves the hassle of transferring to pen drives.

You are a person whom I already asked many questions regarding C9 and you cleared most of my doubts. Surly I will ask you if I have any doubt in future.
Sadly, I could not watch Netflix contents due to weak network. Both Airtel and Jio 4G signals are weak inside home. I am watching only DTH and USB right now. But I am planning to get fiber optic connection. Then only I can realise the full power of C9.

Haha! I can understand. I'm also new to smart TVs. LG webOS is so much better than Android. I don't think I can use anything other UI now unless it's as good or better. Definitely get a good broadband connection and upgrade the plan to 4k too. Netflix offers the best streaming imo. Amazon has some good content, but the app sucks.

Yes. Webos is good. Unlike android It starts up fast and runs smoothly after starting. But at first it was difficult to me operating it. I even didn't know how to play contact in USB. However I managed, now I can do most settings and feel easy to operate.
Definitely I we'll get good network connection soon.

Don't use dynamic contrast or peak brightness in SDR if you want the most accurate setting. Increase OLED light instead if you want brighter image. Of course, you can set it to what you enjoy watching, but just pointing it out.

I'm also using Clear Voice III with bass boost and Atmos. After much experimentation, I found this to offer decent surround effect and effects don't overpower the dialogues. Also, Netflix automatically plays 5.1 audio if it's available, so if you find the audio to be too low, you can change that to original, which should be stereo. However, with settings that I'm using, even 5.1 works but I have to raise the volume a lot; that's still easier to than changing audio to original for each episode or movie at the start.

thanks will try without peak brightness and dynamic contrast. though definitely need to bump up oled light for brighter image. I mostly watch Hotstar, Netflix and Amazon

need help. Can i sideload Jio app using apk on usb drive. The objective is see all channels on LG smart TV

I think you can't sideload app in LG Webos. You need Amazon Fire Stick or any other Android box. But 4K Fire Stick is the best option.

Found out that the LG C9 switches automatically to HDMI ARC once I power on my receiver. The moment I shut my receiver the audio goes back to internal speakers- which is very convenient. There are also 2 demo clips preinstalled within the Picture and Photo app to show off the display :-)

Also watched Dark Phoenix in 4k - completely jaw dropping visuals on the C9

Was watching some Netflix (lucifer) on my projector yesterday (1080p). Kept looking for the same vibrant picture and black levels and quickly switched back to C9- spoilt for life :-(

Same for cinemas for me. They look so faded. Check out Samsung Onyx screen if there's one in your city though. That one is similar to OLEDs.
