Thanks all.
It is unfare for me to pick up name as i have got feedback from many of them. So thanking overall in this forum.

Here is the course of action
June 27th, 2011 : ordered LG LV 5500 from a bangalore retailer.
June 28th : delivery done.
June 29th : A LG guy comes, opens the box, sets the HDTV and configures all. I was not at home when this happenend.

June 30th : Review ( Yahoo ).

PQ : i was happy. I am not that technically good in judging the PQ, but still i was happy like a normal user.
Sound Quality : Not that great. For some ripped movies i have to increase the sound level to 50 ( 1 - 100 range ) to get clear audio. But i played a 1080p demo file ( demoworld.com) and the sound quality was clear. I suppose the audio format in the video file matters.

File formats : It recognized mkv, .ts ( i think ) and a few more formats like avi.
A few MKV played well. For a few it simply says "Audio format not supported ".
i think it works with ac3 and not DTS. ( i am not sure, but will find out ).

Hard disk size : i tried 1 TB wester digital external hardrive. I was able to browse. I odd thing is when ur navigating for sometime, you some how swithch from usb to some other interface like HDMI or Composite. So we have to go back to USB again.

Interesting one's
- if ur playing a mkv file, the tv breaks the movie into chapters. Instead of fast forwarding a movie, we can navigate to a particular chapter and see the movie. It helps when u want to demo ur tv using many movies :).
- You can have a slideshow of your pics. I tried manual navigation. Slideshow i have not yet tried.

missing
- Magic wand is not available as part of this package. U have to buy seperately.
- LG wireless adapter is also not available as part of this tv. u have to buy seperately.

Tatasky HD/SD : It is yet to be installed. so cannot comment. I tried hathway SD and the quality sucks big time. So waiting to check with tatasky hd.

Interfaces : 4 HDMI, 2 USB, 1 LAN port, 1 headphone out, 1 optical out ( i remember only these.

I will update more on this.

Dude,
the size is 42 inch. i had already purchased washing machine and other stuff just a month back. So i know the sales folks recognize me by face. He gave me good offer which i took. I dont know if it was for me because i purchased enough stuff there or is it for all.

i am going to buy some more stuff this weekend and will ask him about this.
if the price is same for all of us then i will definitely reveal the price.

Hi,

Nice to see you are happy with your new gadget. Can you let me know the other TVs that you looked before selecting this model.

Thanks.

LG LV 3500, LG LV 3730, samsung D5000.
i took the demo of 3730 and was fixed on it. when i went to buy, the retailer recognized me. ( i am a hard bargainer ). so i got a straight forward offer on LG 5500 ( i had not auditioned this tv, but i knew that most specs are same as 3730 and 3500. ) i bought it even without auditioning as it is a 120hz tv.

Hello Manjunath, I have almost zeroed in on this one..from your reviews it does seem to be a good performer. Just one q. I have an LG Jazz 22" LCD in the bedroom. It has been wall mounted a few inches higher than ideal, as a result of which the viewing is not clear when I watch it lying on the bed. The images seem good only when one sits and watches. I do not think this should have been a problem..but its there. Wanted your views on the viewing angle of the LV5500..i know the two are different..but it would help if you let me know. Also, would you suggest any other brand? How much useful is the smart tv option? THanks so much.

Hi,

How is the performance of 5500 with respect to internet (youtube and explorer). I am bit confused between 42Lg5500 and sony 40ex520.
Please suggest.
Thanks.
