Hi Guys,

I am planning to bring my LP12 to Chennai, given that its a complicated TT to set up (At least for me), I would like to know if there is anyone in Chennai who could help me set the TT up and service when needed (lets say if I want to change the tone arm etc). Anyone out there using LP 12 ? How do you manage the setup and servicing etc. :)

Thanks,
Sunder.

Sachinder Jolly is also an authorised representative of Linn in India. Based in Mumbai. Spoke with him a few weeks ago. You may call him on 9768133863.

i tried him, but when he came to know i bought a used LP12 TT, he is acting quite pricey and UN-interested. so very disappointed with this attitude. showed no interest getting springs, grommets, plinth et al, i had a plan to get lingo down the line, but now i have promised myself i wont get it from him.

People in Mumbai can contact Firoz Mistry, (who was referred to me by Prithvi of Absolute Phase), who represented Linn in India long back. But his services wont come cheap. However in general, it is a very simple TT, and the only reason to have servicing done is if the TT is moved (or has been moved by the previous owner) with the platter and sub-platter on, which can make the suspension mounting bolts go off-vertical. That would make it impossible to tune the suspension and hence the bolts must be restored to absolute vertical. Firoz supplied me with belt, rubber feet etc. I procured the rest from Cheng, the Linn dealer in Adelphi, Singapore. In case anyone wants Firoz's number they can PM me.

Hi,

Firoz Mistry was the Linn and Naim authorised representative back in the 80's and 90's.

I got my Trampoline baseboard and Vallhalla powersupply from him back then.

Very nice gentleman whom I met a couple of times . He used to work (still works?) with Air India.

The LP12 is one complicated mother to set up right.

I disagree. :)

The complications JLS is referring to has little to do with setting up the Linn and more to do with an error I made in estimating the depth of the plinth. I tried to solder an RCA Kit from ATA to the base of the SME 3009 I am using, and assumed wrongly that the plinth had insufficient depth. Then we modified the RCA whereas we could have simply modified the RCA males on the interconnect (which also we ultimately did).

But generally, but not always, when I try an experiment with changing a cartridge, it is necessary to retune the suspension. With practice it takes a few minutes only, but in the beginning it was not very simple.

Firoz still works with Air India.

Rajiv, did the Trampoline make a significant difference?

JSL, it;s not really hard to get the bounce if all three screws are perpendicular...as of now, i use two spirit levels at different points on the platter and focus on aligning the platter to the tee..once you focus on this...you would notice that if you get the platter leveled, the the arm board is more or less aligned with the plinth! i used to do it the other way round earlier...tht is to get the arm board at plinth level.

all said, for me, it's more of im not sure if the suspension is too tight or low for the table and whether it's tuned as it was meant to be....anyone who plays guitar would know there's a difference between a tuned guitar and a "finely" tuned guitar...

Hi,

Rajiv, did the Trampoline make a significant difference?

In my system it made a difference. I use a heavy wooden rack that is weighed down with equipment, and adding the Trampoline baseboard certainly improved the sound to my ears. The improvements were a better sense of flow and air .

The new version of the Trampoline is supposedly better than the old version but it is quite expensive

The address I have for Firoze Mistry is old. I am not sure if it is still valid.

It has been some years since I have been in touch with him.
