Hello fellow-members !

i recently purchased a logitech harmony 300 universal remote. after struggling a bit with creating an account on myharmony.com and downloading the software (it wouldnt work for me on either FF, chrome, or IE 9.0), i was about to start configuring the remote, but the set-up screen just hangs up when you are asked to connect the remote to a USB port on your PC. searched on logitech forums, and tried out these steps too :

1. tried on various USB ports. the driver gets installed automatically, but still the set-up screen on myharmony.com doesnt move beyond 'connect your harmony' step.

2. tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

3. removed remote's batteries and had them replugged in.

4. tried installing the software in win xp SP3 compatibility mode too.

did all of these above, but to no avail. the 'next' button in the 'connect your harmony' screen simply doesnt get activated to be pressed (ie, doesnt change to blue colour from grey), even after waiting for half-an hour.

i have win 7 64-bit as my PC's OS, and the myharmony set-up runs ONLY on IE 32-bit; no other browser.

please advise, harmony users, where i might be going wrong. this already seems like a wasted purchase, after reading some feedback over logitech forum :(

kindly suggest....

thanks in advance !

You already got yours? Mine hasn't even shipped yet

Yes, the harmony setup s/w is a bit old and works well on a 32-bit WinXP OS. I am not sure about the compatibility mode. Try it on a different PC with WinXP.

Good luck.

tried it again in the evening now, this time on my dad's laptop. it has win 7 32-bit as the OS. just to ensure that all goes correct, after i downloaded the harmony software, i changed the compatibility mode to win xp SP 2 this time, instead of what i had tried earlier in the day, ie, SP 3. now it worked like a charm, and it felt so exciting fiddling with this new device :clapping:

a strange thing happened. after getting done with this, i gave it a thought to try it once more on my PC, on which it was giving trouble earlier. i restarted my PC, uninstalled and reinstalled the harmony software, changed compatibility mode to win XP SP 2, and bingo ! it worked here too.

i could only guess that what worked was changing the compatibility mode from SP 3 to SP 2. i had read this thing about using SP 2 on the logitech forum earlier, but had forgotten to do this, and instead switched to SP 3. but nevertheless, all's good now at the end of the day :yahoo:

not shipped yet ?! did you contact the seller ? i got mine just the next day of placing the order, in the evening.

and in case you too face any difficulty during the set-up, just follow what i wrote above ;)

thank you both of you for your response :)

EDIT : A small update - seems the problem with 64-bit win 7 isnt over. though now the set-up screen works fine on this, there's some issue of it not recognising the remote. will try to find some solution and post about it here if i am successful. 32-bit OS is not a problem though.

I was planning to buy logitech 300 but as per experts advice went for 525 instead...
I bought 525 recently...
I have vista 64 bit sp2 and I had no problem in installing software and configuring remote setup...
It was very smooth...
Probably its a problem with win 7 64 bit or it was something else...

congrats ! how much did it cost you ?

yeah its a problem with win7 64-bit only.....

well, how many devices can the 525 control ? i have already started feeling this device needs an upgrade :D

if i get the sony one (RMVLZ620) somehow from somewhere (amazon isnt shipping it yet to india :(), i would put this up for sale and grab that one :p

Got mine just now. Shipping label shows 4-Feb as shipping date. Guess seller forgot about my order till he got the eBay reminder

Packaging is just a newspaper wrapped around the box - just barely holding together. Box seems a bit beat-up and is crumpled at the edges, but the remote seems fine. Will test it in the evening.

525 can control 10 devices.
Yep, 525 is a much better remote. Guess all you guys got the 525 in the killer deal a year or so back. Now it costs Rs 3,000 - don't want to spend that much. The 300 is a decent deal now for Rs 1,099 and I only need to control three devices.

Cheers.

hehe....yeah he must've forgotten. packing was the same for my remote too. felt like someone has parcelled some bhel-puri :D
but lucky nothing was damaged inside....yet to leave the feedback for him. will surely write about this.

yes most of these i think have got their 525 in 2010 i think. saw a thread of blasto on that. now its for over 3k :(

Tested the Harmony 300 with two sets for gadgets. First with a 46" Samsung LCD TV, Brite-View Media Player and a decade old Norcent DVD player. Worked great for all.

Then at my parent's place with a 50" Panasonic Plasma TV, B-V Media Player, Tata Sky and Philipps DVD player. Worked right the first time. Now my parents want one and I just ordered one more for them - the 150 off 1000 coupon I got has been put to good use :D

Only gripe I have is that the software doesn't let the user control which device goes to which button (TV, DVD, etc). I have noticed that the first device added always gets assigned to the TV button. Had to delete the devices and re-add in a particular order to get the device-button mapping the way I want. Else, fully satisfied with remote.

Cheers.

congrats ! and also, good observation there. i happened to set my TV's commands first on the 300, so i couldnt notice that. but nevermind.

am still playing with the remote. although very easy to use, but got some issues with the 5.1 system. but am hopeful they will be resolved in no time. am not able to set buttons for switching in between sound-input and channel-selection/channel-volume. will give it more effort.

I had some trouble figuring out how to change audio channels and on/off subtitles on the media player. Finally found that audio, subtitles & time-search (Go To) are all mapped to the single BLUE button.

Still learning this thing - it has possibilities, have to figure out how to assign functions to different buttons. But it is great not having to juggle remotes :)

this makes me very hopeful for exploring other options hidden in this device. i think frequenting logitech forums should help us.

and one more thing is, the signal-strength of my 5.1 system's remote and/or receiver is quite weak, esp. for some particular functions. i will see today whether with harmony things are better in this regard or not.

UPDATE : no change in signal-strength :(

Bought one Harmony 300 and set it up for Den Digital set top box and old Hitachi TV. I did not face any issues , i set it up easily on Windows 7, configured my TV first and did manual configuration for the Den Digital Set top Box remote. I was unable to find a code for the same.

could you please post your version of windows (32-bit or 64-bit). it would be tough to get it configured on 64-bit, though it gets done in a jiffy on 32-bit windows. also, use IE 32-bit or mozilla firefox to set-up the remote. would post a step-by-step procedure of what i did by today evening/night.

as i wrote earlier, it would fail on 64-bit version. if you can, try on some acquaintance's PC with either XP or win7 32-bit. it will work that way.
