made speaker cables out of Lan cable

And if you want to get down dirty and come out pulling a snake of a cable, here's how for your twisting pleasure. Quoting from the article: "They bested Kimber 8TC, AQ Midnight, and even gave the expensive XLO's a run for their money (the XLO's were better, but not by the margin that the price would indicate)." This guy now has his own cable business, selling a full line of interconnects, speaker cables, power cables, and very expensive capacitors of his own design.

And this guy claims to have bettered the formulae of TNT as well as Chris Venhaus. If one must dirty one's hands, I think this one is worth trying.

And an IC from the same guy, using Eichmann Bullet RCA connectors.

Been there, done that. The sound is OK. Never used expensive speaker cables, so cannot compare. Gives me DIY satisfaction. IMHO for a normal system(not multi-million rupees one) a good branded(Finolex, Havells etc.) house wiring cable of sufficient gauge is enough.

May be you should do a shootout with an open-minded owner of an expensive cable and see how it fares.

<snip>On the other hand, wasn't there a multi-insulated-strand speaker cable that blew up (the ultimate proof that cables can make a difference!) amplifiers? Maybe that was an entirely different construction and not relevant. I can search the reference if anybody wants.[/I]<snip>
Blew up an amplifier? I wonder why? After all wires are wires are wires.... And as long as they conduct...

Google "Cobra." Apparently it sounded wonderful with some equipment and blew up others!

... And, if you want to know more about adverse cable loads affecting amplifier performance, ask Polk Audio about their ill-fated Cobra Cables which tended to blow up output inductorless amplifiers - a cable and amplifier interaction that everybody could hear.

From Frank Van Alstein's An Open Letter To "Good Sounding" Cable Manufacturers. Which, by the way, is a must read for those who "believe" in cables ...and perhaps even more (Check the very end of the story) for those of us who are audiosceptics.

Darn, I ripped up a 31 feet long unused LAN cable before I read this thread. Made a huge mess in the house on the day of Diwali with snakes and climbers across the hall. Need to make some audible difference now. :sos:
