Heard B&W 606 for the first time and I was floored with the dynamic range of the speaker. The speaker were fed from PM 8005.

I have made up my mind to have b&w 606 but skeptical about their performance with CA 740 a.

inputs from FM is solicited.

What's your budget for the Amplifier?

What's your budget for the Amplifier?
First of all going by the RMS of CA 740 A and its sensitivity, i assume it can run the b&w 606 for sometime till i get an amp. I need inputs of FM on this.

secondly I have an add on dilemma. My CDP is not working for the last few months and need to be replaced also.

i can manage for sometime with the available streamer.

coming to your point, i would like inputs on some vital factors to be considered for an amp for this b&w 606. Budget would be 75k. May stretch max upto 80k considering that a CDP also needs to be purchased

Instead you could get a stereo power Amplifier
And a DAC with volume control.

Please note that This speaker's minimum impedance is 3.7.

Alternative speaker option is genelec 8030 for your budget.

I shared the budget for the amp. Speakers are kind of decided and its b&w 606.

The rating of my existing amp is 100W/8ohm and 150 W/4 ohm.
The specs of 606 says 30-120W recommended amp ratings.

Rotels match well. Make sure more power is fed.

How much are they quoting for B&W 606 and what's the warranty ?

I will take time to figure out after buying the pair.

AS of now, i believe , 150W/4 ohm would suffice to feed the 606.
What amp are you using now?

Since you have already finalised on speaker, best to get it home first and set it up. You may not require an amp upgrade also...

Hmmm.... thanks for the inputs. Will first get the 606. Hook up and then proceed . Will discuss with you in coming days :)
You can even try the cary audio SL-300.2D amp which I own,as they have a lot of power and are known to even power speakers with 0.6 ohms impedance, and are rated at 300 watts@8ohms and 450 watts@4 Ohms.
They run on class A output for most of the listening and have a tube quality output and are vey engaging.

606's have a sensitivity of 88db and are rated at 120watts@ 8 ohms, which means they need more power to drive them to extract the juice out.. a good power amp with 200 watts is more than sufficient or a good integrated amp with 200 watts or more power.
More power & hi end amp is better, but that has to justify the cost of the speakers you are driving and future speaker upgrade options.
