MC or MM cartridge for playing used LPs

Hi Mahiruha,

Decca carts being cantilever-less put a lot of energy back into the arm. Hence damping is essential. That's why I got the SME FD fluid damper even though the SME is not the best match, ideally a unipivot. With a linear tracker like yours there's no conventional pivot so the issues of having to damp are eliminated.

If you get your dream arm and want to sell the transfi please remember me first :)

Hi Steven,
I see your point. Be very careful before using this fluid damper as it is very easy to inject the viscous liquid inside the arm but quite difficult to take it out. I also got a fluid damper supplied with my VPI arm but never had any temptation to try it. In general people are bit skeptical about it in VPI arms. Make sure you absolutely need it before applying it.

Well those are not my dream arms :) but I like them because the way they offer a free space to place the vinyl and the periphery ring. I am seriously thinking of incorporating that idea in transfi. It is just about making a proper base on which the mounting column can slide in a frictionless manner much like in the video
ClearAudio Statement Disc Change on Hi-Fi Show 2007 - Brazil - YouTube . Since Transfi is cantilever so I need to make only one slider. It will be another interesting project lets see how it goes.
Thanks.

Hi Mahiruha,

The SME damping trough is an external one so no worries on that count unlike a unipivot.
