At that price it should not really matter.
Do keep in mind, you get what you pay for.
I hate how expensive the hdtv market in India is compared to USA. Just for quick comparison Sony 50w800b is $800 in usa whereas the same tv costs more than double that in India at $1800.Why such huge price gap between us and them? This is where companies like Micromax come in selling at a much cheaper price that the majority can afford and drive the segment growth Micromax is like India's Vizio except micromax has yet to prove itself. In any case this looting Indians by big brands need to be halted and market be made more competitive and affordable. Sony cant keep riding the premium brand wagon forever although its been working for them alright. As stated above, usually, and I do mean 'usually', what you pay for is what you get. I have always believed by two philosophies:
1. When you shell out peanuts, you get monkeys.
2. When you buy quality, you will cry once only.
At the same time:
1. Brands are many times overpriced, especially Sony which I think is at least 10% overpriced than others.
2. Gone are the days when brands meant absolute quality. Once upon a time, TVs used to last 20+ years - even Indian TV brands such as BPL, EC, etc. I am not saying that the likes of Sony, Panasonic, LG, Samsung are now bad. But electronic failure is fairly common.
3. There have been reports that flat screens fail in about 3 to 5 years.
So a Micromax 50" TV at 30K seems a great deal. But do not expect great quality. Of course, I have not seen the TV - so these are a little bit biased. Remember that when MM brought super cheap smartphones, the elite scorned. But MM has built a great fan following and a solid base. It is not just because of cheap goods. People have said and are saying the MM phones are real VFM.
In any case this looting Indians by big brands need to be halted and market be made more competitive and affordable.
We all know that, so share if you have anything better to add
Another doubt popping up - is there a possibility that companies sell second quality goods in India, whereas first quality reaches developed markets?
SD and HD channels look the same. Is that the case really? I do plan to use it with a HD STB from Dish TV.
