Micromax TVs - opinion?

Good to know that people are slowly moving from being brand crazy to cheaper yet reliable and practical vendors.

My personal experience with Samsung hasn't been too good. I brought a 40" LCD TV in 2007 and within 4 years I had a big smudge/blot(not sure what to call it) on the screen. Called a service engineer and fount out its an LCD panel problem and only solution is to replace it. I have been living with this ever since..

Had similar experience with branded mobiles and recently picked up a Mi3 and very happy with the performance and price(:clapping:). So whats wrong in moving away from Sonys/Samsungs/LGs to cheaper brands(only price wise).

Domestic brands like Onida haven't had a good stint when the transition happened between CRT to LCD, which makes us move to bigger brands...

Onida was a very popular brand 10 yrs back after that bigger brands shadowed them with technology...

Micromax is doing a Very good Job in pricing the TV.. They might take some time to beat the best brands in technology, but with this kind of pricing, they can make a dent where it matters the most - "Volumes"...

I am not much aware abt 3:2 pull down is... I think other FM can pitch & help you here...But most entry level models need to woo customers.. So Yes gimmick needed..

I haven't bought anything at all from Snapdeal.. But there has been mixed responses in this forum abt buying on snapdeal... I think they offer only 10 days replacement policy incase any such issues....

But Flipkart offers 30 day exchange / 60 day exchange policy (Flipkart First customer) if you buy from WS Retail.... More Advantage here i guess..

I have been an happy Flipkart customer for 3 yrs, returned many products and they are such a "Breeze" to deal with.... Customer is real king here

me too with FK for at least 2+ yrs if not 3. But in my opinion the better customer service experience is mainly on WSRetail items. If there is a problem with a 3rd party seller on FK it takes ages. But I guess the TVs we are talking of here are mostly WSRetail items.

I have bought a couple of low cost items from snapdeal but not sure if it will be reliable especially with 3rd party sellers and nothing like their own. Even on Amazon you have Amazon fullfilled items with better service assurance.

Also you wondered about the 3:2 pulldown, just google it, a common side-effect introduced due to 60 Hz (fps) not being a complete multiple of 24 fps movies.

Nevertheless I just now checked that FK has brought back the 15.5 K Micromax available at my location and also one Onida at 17.9 K. I guess the final shortlist is
0. Philips 28 inch with 2 HDMI and 3 years Warranty for 16.5 K Buy Philips 29PFL4738 71 cm (28) LED TV Online at best Prices In India
1. Micromax 32 inch with 2 HDMI for 15.5 K Buy Micromax 32B200HDi 81 cm (32) LED TV Online at best Prices In India
2. Onida 32 inch with 2 HDMI for ~ 18K Buy Onida LEO32HM 81 cm (32) LED TV Online at best Prices In India
3. Videocon 32 inch with 1 HDMI for ~ 18K but 3 years warranty Buy Videocon VJE32HH-2XAF 81 cm (32) LED TV Online at best Prices In India

Yeah right......Thanks for the info on 3:2 pull done... Will read thru...

So looks like you have "0" in on Philips :ohyeah:

Has anybody given the 49"/50" Micromax TVs a shot? They look quite promising by the videos and reviews that are available especially at this price point.

For 35k Micromax 50" is definitely Extreme VFM. If it came with 3 yr warranty... I could take a gamble.
Even Videocon looks promising but their prices r higher then micromax... More in line with Philips.
But a close frnd had bought a Videocon 32" led fr 18k with 5 yr warranty...holy cow. Do they really have that much belief in reliability of their leds. I mean 5 yrs... That's the max life of tvs these days. Hard to fathom how are they able to pull this off.
Must say... Videocon is coming full guns blazing. They have also come up with their 4k range.

Even I had shortlisted 4 options but still waiting for the 32B200HDi price to drop to 15.5K from 16.7 K at present since I cannot forego the extra screen size over the 3 yr warranty videocon 28 inch.

Even if Micromax provided additional warranty for 5K, that makes it 40K total for a 50 inch TV... The next closest brand is VU and then comes the rest... Still good VFM....

Videocon gives 5 yrs warranty as that will be the USP for their range of TV's.. Actually good strategy...

The funniest thing in the whole scene is that there is a good possibility that the so called branded premium goods may have the same OEM as the cheap and not so reliable Micromax.

And I can't believe how people have swallowed hook line and sinker about the govt taxes causing high price.
So Micromax evades taxes right?

I called up Wybor contact number from their website Wybor.in and spoke to Mr Gagan. It was a informative conversation where he confirmed that Wybor has 200 service centers across the country including Kolkata and the warranty card will have helpline number from where I can book any service call. Their service is onsite within or outside warranty period. I asked them about the low cost in comparison to which they said snapdeal is safe to buy at least for their products and that the set is entirely manufactured in India (not even assembled) and they manufacture OEM parts for many branded TV manufacturers.

Now coming back to reliability, I think in any price bracket it is a gamble because ven my in-laws purchased a Sony 32 inch and its panel became dead within warranty and got replaced but after the warranty its motherboard went dead again and that was a LCD (BX / CX 200) which costed roughly 30K back in 2012. So I think for 14K and free delivery this Wybor is a deal and might be a price with which we can at least think of taking a risk.

What do you guys think?

Called him up again, and the answer is yes but we cannot purchase that right away. Per their service policy at the end of every year we would get calls from service center about extending warranty for additional 1 year and we have to keep topping up the warranty in that manner. 0th year is anyway covered with purchase, 1st year it will be Rs 800 and similarly for every additional year the price will slightly increase depending on the TV's age.

Will place the order today, Wybor Austin W32. :)

Have you bought Wybor? Am also interested.. Can you tell me about the quality of 32 inch LED TV from WYBOR.. Also what about their service? Am having no option to see a prototype of the product since it is not marketed through local dealers in kerala.. So Please post some photos taken if you already bought the product
