.MKV files in Denon --Need help urgently

I am planning to buy a Denon 1713 AVR.I want to watch movies(movie size over 10GB and .MKV [1920*1080]) through pendrive/external HDD. Will the Denon's USB support this format & size?
If I plug the pendrive into TV(LG 32' 3D - supports mkv),will the AVR be able play the sound through 5.1 speakers?

Please help

Answer for 1st question - No. It wont play movies thru its USB port. You can use it to play music files.
Answer for 2nd question - No. As far as i know, TVs do not output multichannel audio thru optical cable. You can choose Denon's inbuilt DSP to make it 5.1 but that wont be true surround..

These both things can be done thru Media player.. Get a good media player and you are done..

you need a good media player with support for mkv files. You can then connect the media player to the Denon AVR and watch all your movies.

Another option - You can connect laptop to avr via HDMI and play movies on laptop. U will get full 5.1 sound

There are many media players in the market like Asus, netgear, xtreme, etc starting 4k. U can connect ur usb to media player and media player to avr and play movies thru media player

My .MKV movies are having DTS/DTS-HD sound codec...Denon supports DTS/DTS-HD.

But after I plug the USB to the TV,will the DTS/DTS-HD audio be played through the Denon AVR to the 5.1 speakers through the HDMI 1.4 cable ?

yes you are correct. The audio from the pen drive will be decoded by the denon AVR via the tv which will be output to the 5.1 speakers.

Or if your DVD/BDP has USB and support MKV, that also may work.
