Mosquito Season & Mosquitoes: Periphery and Internal Defenses to deal with them?

I found this one to be somewhat effective. Has strong scent which I don't like. Got it from a friend. Don't know from where did he get it from.
But while sleeping, I prefer to use mosquito net and tuck all the sides properly under the mattress.

Whenever our sellers name their product as "Safe" "gentle" or "care", you have to be even more wary & cautious. Sometimes the known devil is better than the unknown. A mosquito net & a mosquito racket are better options.

Completely agree with you Nitin.

Searched the forum and found a few analogies and one thread: https://www.hifivision.com/threads/indoor-plants.64573/post-712137

- Analogies -
- My own pain -

- We've got sliding windows with one net window, but one human slip up (parents, family, maid or single Ring of doorbell in evening) and the precautions go for a toss.
- Also are there some gaps that most average folks miss out?
.. between/ junction of sliding windows / A/C in out air control vents - / Exhaust Fans etc?

- We've gone off the Tortoise & AllOut/ GoodK mats due to toxic chemical concerns
- Have used Odomos/ GK lotion when traveling/ outdoors for holidays - Am told Neem Oil should work but..

Dont like it but have resorted to mosquito nets to get un-interrupted sleep; worse feeling when finally feeling half asleep and they pop into / around years neck and..

WRT Mosquito Nets I am a bit new/ amateur as we never saw or used them at home in Mumbai ever before so no internal wisdom on it. Hence asking.

I am the first & only in family to use/ try it now:
2 types:
71T5aUYjPKL._AC_UL320_.jpg
51JTRRHAaIL._AC_UL160_SR160,160_.jpg
They both are cumbersome to fit every night
Cumbersome to get in and out of - bathroom or so on.

Considering one of the Hanging Types- that hopefully allow quick easy in / out from underneath.
Rectangular (4 corner strings) or
CIrcle/ Round nets (central ring with string - fan attach maybe)

I am guessing White or Ivory colors would be better to spot any flying intruders?

Any ideas / hacks on hanging also welcome;
I was thinking magnetic/ S hooks etc. retractable cord/ cable etc?

Any experience or ideas on this space that can help with a design is welcome :D
For sleep and only in a bedroom with door closed, you can try what we do. Half an hour before your sleeping time, put off the lights in the bedroom, and spray Hit (mosquito) only in the bedroom and then close its door immediately. Wait for 10 mins (very important). Then open the door fully, keep the lights off and turn the fan on at full speed. Keep doors and lights of other rooms (eg living room or kitchen open/on. The mosquitoes wouid rush outside the bedroom to these other rooms. Close the bedroom door after 10 more minutes. You are ready to enter your bedroom and sleep as long as you don’t open the door for long through the night.

What you achieve: No mosquitoes in the bedroom (provided the windows have mosquito nets). No need to keep Good Knight or any other repellent on through the night. Or to sleep under mosquito net or any other form of protection. The Hit sprayed doesn’t stay in when you go to sleep, not even a trace. You breathe fresh air all night without any chemicals.

To supplement or even replace the insecticide solution do consider investing some time in identifying and managing mosquito breeding sites. If done effectively it will dramatically limit or even stop mosquitoes in and around your home.
In densely populated situations like apartments and such you will need to enlist the cooperation of neighbours.
1. Identify places where water stagnates (plates under flower pots, old pain cans, coconut shells etc. 100ml of water stagnant for two or three days is enough to produce 109s of mosquitoes.
Large drains of slow moving waste water you can add larvicides (organise ones are available)
Ornamentals ponds and tanks you can add small fish (Gambucea is very effective in eating mosquito larvae. It’s distributed free of cost by many municipalities and requires no additional feeding or care.
Ensure the ventilation pipes of septic tanks are covered with netting or cloth (they disintegrate after a few months and need to be replaced.
Learn about the life cycle of mosquitoes and their behaviour. Eg: Aedes Egypti which is responsible for dengue largely feeds during the day and has preferred breeding site characteristics.
Mosquitoes usually feed within a few 100 metres o fly their birth place. So identifying and eradicating their breeding opportunities is very easy and sustainable if we dedicate some time and effort.
Italy had endemic Malaria caused by mosquitoes for centuries and through a mix of engineering and sustained surveillance efforts managed to eradicate this problem. Changing climate patterns seems to have caused a recurrence in some parts though.
It’s possible to prevent mosquito bites and diseases without poisoning ourselves.
Permethrin and similar deadly compounds even in aerosol form deposit on surfaces and remain intact for long periods.
A small group of concerned citizens including children can become efficient mosquito hunters and transform your locality into a mosquito free zone.
Happy hunting!

I have noticed, taking a shower with a neem based soap ( read Margo) just before bed time works against mosquito bites.

Preventing stagnant water outside and inside homes is key. Since there is always some construction with concrete curing for 21 days curing going on in most of our neighbourhood it’s important to ensure the contractors do not cure concrete with stagnant water (lazy way) but sprinkle water a few times a day to keep the concrete moist. There are laws and rules for this but rarely enforced. But closer to home old tyres, discarded buckets, utensils and even coconut shells can become breeding sites specially during after rains.

Iam using Comfort ( Citronella & Lemon grass ) incense sticks (bought in Amazon), find it very effective .Keep the room totally closed, light 2 of them at a time, occupy the room after sometime.
During the evenings we use Citronella drops in water on a ceramic diffuser with tea lights under it as a mood setter as well as an effective mosquito deterrent. But we always have ventilation through windows that have nets installed. This doesn’t generate fumes unlike incense sticks.

Downstream components as skin surface repellents, fumigation and net barriers are important.
But as in Audio, the source is key 😄

Here is an innovative device which tracks and exterminates mosquitoes in rooms!
It’s new, and not certified yet by any public health agency

I am thinking….Combined with this…
