In my order, couple of titles are unavailable in India but other are available. Ordered from AMZ UK because of price but as you said about duty charges that makes almost same or more price than Indian BDs.

I am not sure if there is any content difference in UK vs Indian versions. I always buy from India if the movie duration is same in UK or worldwide.

Even noticed that in many Titles in India; the Blu-ray disc (only disc, not inlay card) was imported like Made in Austria, Germany etc, seems they use same disc globally and just print the cover according to country.
 
I will repeat what I said in the past about the pitfalls of ordering on Amazon, UK (probably a little lost in older threads):

Customs Duty:
Sometimes you may be lucky and escape customs duty. But at other times the Foreign Post Office (FPO) section levies duty. It levies as per the following code:

Indian Customs Duty | Import Duty India of HS Code 9804 | ALL DUTIABLE ARTICLES, INTENDED FOR PERSONAL USE, IMPORTED BY POST OR AIR, AND EXEMPTED FROM ANY PROHIBITION IN RESPECT OF THE IMPORTS THEREOF UNDER THE FOREIGN TRADE (DEVELOPMENT AND REGULATI

The duty with basic duty + cess + spl. duty comes to 41.492%. It is levied on the total package value (base cost + shipping). This is abnormally high.

Uncertainity:
While there is no issue with Amazon, UK/Royal Mail, once the package reaches Indian shores, it is in the hands of Indian Postal department. In 5% of the cases, the package gets lost. In 45% of the cases, the delivery is delayed beyond 3 weeks. In 50% of the cases, the package gets delayed by upto 6 weeks wherein the FPO takes its own time to assess the duty.

Lack Visibility/Tracking:
Part of above. There is no package tracking. Once the order is shipped, it is all Ram Bharose/Allah Jaane/Christ is the saviour/Waahe Guru di fateh.

I wrote to Amazon, UK many times urging them to use the Amazon.com model. They always replied in the same way, "Dear Sir, We apologise for the difficulty .... We have forwarded your suggestion ...." etc. but so far have not done anything.

The worst thing is the duty. I do not mind paying duty. I am paying duty when I order from Amazon.com. But, point one, the duty here is exhorbitant and ridiculous and point two, it has to be paid in cash at the time of delivery when sometimes you may not have cash ready in house. There is a third point as well, to a lesser degree, that Amazon, UK does not offer free shipping. But this is offset by the VAT refund that one gets.

Since then, I have stopped ordered from Amazon, UK.

Finally, I also take a judgement call. If the final landed price of the BD works to around Rs. 650 then I place the order. Back-calculating the price, the base cost works close to GBP 3.50 and this is an improbable (if not impossible) price. On the other hand, if the price is $8.5 on Amazon, US, then I am able to meet the price breakpoint. This price is often found at Amazon, US.

I agree. This is a good refernece numbers for someone looking to buy from AMZ-UK.

Normally the boxsets in AMZ-UK is cheaper than AMZ-US, and usually per disc costs are closer to those numbers. So I normally go for boxsets that is cheap enough to get some benefit. Normally they are around GBP10-12 for 3-5 movies. So the landed cost with Duties is about 1500 or so. So for each movie Rs 300-500.

Also some titles are not released in India, in that case you have no options to get it at higher price. Yes there are many areas in India where they don't charge Duties. But you never know.

BTW, I have paid 42% duties for all the shipments received so far. Let's see what happens this time. They have sent two shipments 1 with GBP10.86 (via Royal mail), the other with GBP31.53 (via Iparcel).

Good collection of SRK, price is a steal.

Initially I was ordering Star Wars Saga box set, Life of Pie 3d, Avtar 3D, from Amazon UK when it was on sale with discount prices last week which was creating lots of excitement with local customers as that prices were the cheapest in Amazon UK history. I was so tempted to order, but by sheer luck, I just checked apna Amazon.in and surprised to see our prices were far cheaper than UK sale prices. Same box sets, same no. of Discs, and all region free.

Then ordered from Amazon.in all the above three titles which were delivered yesterday.

Maybe from now on UK residents should order blu-ray discs from Amazon.in. Reverse process initializing....:lol:

Ordered 3 blu-ray titles (Dredd 3d, Coraline 3D and A Bridge Too far) for 17.00 and using code 5off25pc, I got 5 off and the final price was 12.00 from Amazon.uk delivered free to my UK friend's address. The catch is titles should be under 3 for 17 category and total amount of 3 titles should be more than 25. So when you choose 3 titles, it will automatically apply promotion code and show as 17.00, then you apply 5off25pc to get off 5 for final price 12.00 for 3 blu-rays.

In case you are planning to have all the Bond movies in your collection then it is
better to buy the Bond 50 movies collection. I have purchased this recently from Amazon.com for $99 for all the 23 movies which is approximately Rs 300 per movie.

Amazon.com have now increased the pricing to $119, but Amazon UK still have it at around 70 pounds.

Finally for the first time I got a shipment from AMZ-UK without any duty (sent by i-parcel instead of royal mail but locally delivered by india post) within 10-12 days. Thanx, I think the trick is lower value at GBP 33 or so.:yahoo::clapping:

Another one is on way of GBP10, hope it also clears customs without duty.:D

I just got a package from Secondspin USA with a printed invoice for $26.80 - Mumbai postal customs valued the goods @3000 ( 5 DVDs at 600 each) and then levied 41%+ change:mad:

Dreading the arrival of the second package bought /sent on the same day from the same seller with a further 6 BD/DVDs ......:(

Just wish they would be uniform in their madness/stupidity......

Was looking for series 24 complete box set in Blu-Ray, but couldn't find it anywhere (maybe not yet released), so had to settle for DVD format. Nothing on Amazon.in, Snapdeal, or flipkart etc. Either the prices were exorbitantly high or out of stock. Checked on Amazon UK, found this with price 39.99 , applied the promotional code and got off 5, deduction of VAT, shipping cost was 3.58, and the final cost was 31.91
