Over a 4 month staggered procurement plan, I bought first the TSi 400 Floorstanders from Polk Audio, the CS-10 Center Channel, the TSi 100 surrounds, an Onkyo TX-NR 616 to drive it all, and topped it up by buying a Velodyne Impact 12 Subwoofer...

Happy to update my signature finally with all the components of a 5.1 home theater system.

I also had the opportunity to play around with my camera yesterday.

Nice setup, i too have almost same setup the only difference is front Tsi 300 & Denon 1713...

Nice Setup Gratzies!!!.. more pics please and also can you please follow em up with some personal reviews please!!!!

Well I dont know how to write the review - because it's all very subjective!

I dont what folks MEAN when they call an amp 'warm' or 'musical' or some other terms that have been used on this forum.

But I can tell you one thing - I am more of a treble fan than a bass fan. I like the high end to be crisp - VERY CRISP!

I listened to the Jamo S606 with a Denon 1713. Though the Jamos are very good, I didnt get the treble performance that my Polks gave me. Yes, the S606 did have the advantage of a passive sub built into the FS, but I had to tell the Cinebels folks to anyway plug another active sub into the mix to get acceptable bass performance. So I figured no point in giving extra brownie points for the passive sub, if you gotta plug in another active Sub anyway. I then listened to the Polks on an Onkyo 616 at 'The Shop' in D.N Nagar, Mumbai and I found them to be more attuned to my taste in sound. Of-course the amps were different et. al, but I had to just play that part by ear.

Another decisive test that I conducted was playing a Denon (I dont remember whether it was 1713 or 1913) and the Onkyo 515 a set of JBL SCS 200.5 HTiB speakers - without the Sub.

These speakers (which I had at home before this, and am well versed with) are rather tired little satellites, that in the absence of the Sub sound woefully inadequate for music. I was already aware of this since I had them at home.

Here, only the Onkyo 515 BLASTED THE CRAP OUTTA THESE SPEAKERS! Listening to that, I felt, damn this receiver has power! Let's go for the elder brother - the 616!

Thus I came to own the 616 and the Polks, which give tremendous performance in the high end, and a very very respectable low-end performance as well without the sub! My 8 incher older JBL Subwoofer might as well have been off while playing with the Polks! It used to be completely inconsequential with the Polks! It takes an Impact 12 to make itself heard with the Polks!

Regards the pricing:

TSi 400: 26K per pair
TSi 100: 10.8K per pair
CS-10: 9K
Onkyo 616: 26K - but bought online in Dubai, and shipped to a friend living in Sharjah who brought it down to Mumbai - no customs duties (since < 35K)
MX Cables: 5K

Hai Tanmayj,

It's good to see your set up. Looks great.

Last week I bought Denon-1713 and now I am adding speakers to it. To startwith I bought Tsi-100 pair (11k in ProFx, Attria Mall) for my front left and right. Later I will go for Floor standing and put this Tsi-100 for surround.

The prices u mentioned seems to be very attractive. Where did you buy your speakers from..? B'coz I am also planning for Polk Audio's Floor standing and Center.

Could you pl. let me know where did you buy the speakers?

Thanks,
Thamizhavel.

How much did you pay for Denon 1713 and what is your room size ?
My room size is 15x20 and I am also planning for Denon 1713/Yamaha 473/ Pioneer VSX-922K.

My room size is 16 x 12. I paid Rs. 28k for Denon 1713, here in Mumbai. In fact, I was thinking to buy Yamaha RX-V473. When I went to the shop, I asked for Yamaha 473. Unfortunately, it was not available. One of the things is I wanted to have a AV-Receiver with NetWork. Moreover, I read in the reveiws both 1713 and RX-V473 are equally good with small + and - here and there.

When I auditioned 1713, i liked it and immediately I bought. Now I am adding speakers to it. To start with I have placed the order for Tsi-100 Bookshelves from Polk Audio. I will get it in a day or two.

The network feature of 1713 is simply awesome. I could easily connect all my apple devices via AirPlay. There are good Remote App in the android market as well for this avr. As of now, the AVR is in standby and I can listen to my Tatasky Audio in the TV speakers.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
