My final decision..Denon 1713 and Wharfedale DX1

Yes, I have auditioned MS-100 CHP but I liked DX1 because of its sound quality in music also..I found DX1 better..

Thanks for the comments. One last question. Did you also try to audition the diamond 10.4 floor-standers there? Yes, its north of one lakh, bust just wanted to know if it was phenomenally better than DX1.

Wharfedale DIAMOND 10.4 are floorstanders crafted for music rather than movies. Whereas DX-1 is a 5.1 package specially for movies. I think if you want something better than DX-1 for movies then Q Acoustics 2000i would be perfect.

No I have not auditioned them..But if you can come to Mumbai..Visit "Designer Audio"..You will find all wharfedale models there..They are the distributor for Wharfdale Speakers in India..
Designer Audio - Sole Distributor for India of world-renowned brands such as Wharfedale, Quad, Phil Jones, DAC, Byford Audio, Vanguard, Vueguard, Vuemax in Mumbai, India.

Yes, I wanted to know performance of floorstanders + surround + centre speakers arranged in a 5.1 way vis-vis-vis DX-1 series speakers. Its something similar to this:
Wharfedale Diamond 10.5 Floorstanding Home Theatre 5.1 Package + Denon AVR-1713 AV Receiver

Any idea about Q Acoustics 2000i series cost?

How come very few audition the Moviestar 70+? It is one of the few satellites provided with a 4" mid-woofer. Most others either have 3" ones or max 3.5". I have found the Moviestar 70+ equally good with movies as well as music. Yes, as of current, it is playing more of music than its main role. The sub too is more musical as it 'just' imparts the subtle extensions instead of the usual bump when coupled to music.

Hi friends,
Sorry for the late reply and late review. As I was out of station for few days I couldnt get my set up installed and try it out. Last night only I got installed and trust my words its so awesome that I had sleepless night & wanted to test it ASAP.

Here I am posting pictures of my setup..

In morning first I tested it with few of movies from my collection (DVDs and downloaded movies on laptop) like- We are Soldiers , The Avengers, 2Fast to Furious, Saving private Ryan and so many other movies.. Superb clear sound with amazing surrounds effects. Thumping gun Shots, amazing roaring sound. Clear dialogue delivery from center speaker too.

Then I tested it with my Hathway HD box. Luckily Iron Manmovie was on Movies now. There also it was great listening experience. I have connected HD box HDMI connection to HDMI in of AVR and SPDIF out to AVR optical in. All the HD channel it performed very well.

For music I played Rock Songs, Pop Songs, Classical fusion like Rhydhun, other new songs and even Ghazals also. It was really a treat to ears. Endless musical journey. :-)

Denon AVR airplay & Internet radio are also awesome. One thing that pinched me that internet radio was restricted thru Radio Denon ( via Vtuner service)..So was missing some of my favorite stations which I am getting on my Squeezebox Touch..Dont know how to tune other station than listed on Vtuner site. If somebody can help me I will be highly obliged. Coz by default it takes to search Vtuner listed stations only.

One more thing - the demo person told me not to press set up button on remote or all the set up parameter will be reset. Is it really true ? Coz I wanna play around some other advance set up or to tweak it treble and bass level, but i am afraid to do so.The operational manual is given on CD in pdf format so didn't get chance to read it thoroughly.Anybody having Denon 1713 plz guide me.

All in all Denon 1713+Wharfedale DX 1 is a great combination. I will surely recommend it for anybody. It really gets full marks in every kind of audio tests. I am loving it..:-)

Nice set-up.

What cable did you use? Was the fixing done by you or by saler?

Hi
Congrats.. I am also going to decide this in this week end.
But can you tell me where you have auditioned Wharfedal speaker system in bangalore?

Hi Friends,
Now after setting up everything, I am enjoying it a lot..But while going thru all the settings in Denon AVR-1713 that been set by the demo person, I have found something which is confusing. So plz help me to enjoy the system at its fullest.
He has set Speaker Configuration as follows:
1- Front - Small
Center - Small
Subwoofer- Yes
Surround - Small

2- Bass : Subwoofer mode- LFE
LPF for LFE- 100mhz

3- Cross Over: Crossover: Individual
Front : 200 mhz
Center: 200 mhz
Surround: 200 mhz

4- Levels : For All speaker individually set to 0.0 db

I am little bit confused about settings of "cross over".. Is it OK or needs some tweaking..
What is he effect of cross over if it is set to 80 mhz, 100mhz OR 200 mhz ?
Plz help..

Cross-over means the cut-off frequency for low frequency response. I think you should set your cross-over frequency at 150hz so that all the frequency below 150 will be produced to subwoofer, instead of Front L, R.

You can also set LFE + Main in your bass setting. It means that the bass from front LR speakers will be produced from subwoofer also.

LFE+Main.jpg

'LFE' is a discrete channel (.1 in 5.1 ) on the disc that is limited to 120 HZ and below. Because it contains only very low bass it is called the Low Frequency Effects channel. In a system with a subwoofer, LFE always goes to the sub. If there is no sub, LFE is routed to the front speakers (and most receivers will automatically set the fronts to Large if sub=no because Large means the speaker gets all frequencies).

'Bass' is low frequency information that did NOT come from the special .1 channel on the disc. Any channel set to Small will have the bass below the xover setting sent to the sub and similar to routing of LFE, if there is no sub, it gets routed to the front speakers.

Nothing is ever routed to LFE. The LFE channel either exists or it doesn't.

Thanks a lot Rupam for your detailed answer..So, if I change crossover vaule- will it add a significant change in sound quality also ? and what precautions should i take while playing around with sub woofer settings and cross over settings..?

Denon will make speakers to Small once the Subwoofer is added. So that setting seems to be OK.

If I am correct, the 200Hz crossover will create a hole in the sound. Speakers support only from 120Hz (80Hz centre) and Sub support only upto 120Hz. So between 120-200Hz, no one may handle. You may want to move the crossover to 150 or 120Hz.

Others, correct me if this reasoning is wrong...

The DX1 looks yummy :licklips:

A quick Q - Will this package go with Yamaha 373/473 ??

Also, Will this fill a 23x11 room?

Lastly - Umapati.. Congrats :ohyeah:

Thanks a lot..I have not auditioned it with Yamaha, but I am sure it will rock..My sitting room is also almost 20' X 12' and it fills the room..:)..

Thanks a lot pkr and Rupam..Even I called up Denon technical support and they advised me to set Crossover for satellite to 100Hz and for Center to set it to 80Hz.& leave LPF to LFE to 100Hz .After changing to this setting I saw a terrific difference..can say "Zabardast difference" :)..in sound quality..Now I can really enjoy the real power this speaker package.Superb clarity in sound..I am really soooo happy..Thanks a lot..Now I can enjoy the system at its fullest..:clapping::clapping::):)

Still one more question..I have seen that cross over level on my sub-woofer back panel is set to 1 o'clock position.i.e. if we look at the calibration, it is between 40hz to 120 hz..so it could be around 80 Hz..So, should I increase it to 100Hz..So that that there may not any hole in sound..? Plz advise..

Well, Basically Speaking it depends on the driver of your speaker, i.e the driver size(Attached Image for Basic Explanation)

Sorry, if the image is a little blur.

80Hz should be Ok. Sub is handling all under 80Hz, 80Hz to 100 by Center and 100 above by Center and Satellites. Hence I think this should be OK.

Alternate option is to see if Sub support an auto option(i.e. let receiver make the decision). if so, set it to Auto, run Audessy and let the receiver set all the settings.
