After setting up my new HT setup, was on the lookout for cheap and VFM banana plugs.

Had an option to order the plugs from Monoprice, but in the monoprice banana plugs the speaker wire could not be screwed down, but had to be spread out.

After some searching on av forums, came across the brand Nakamichi which had decent feedback and the speaker wire could be screwed down which I preferred. Moreover people said the saw type plugs makes more firm contact with the terminals than the conventional design.

Ordered the Nakamichi BFA saw type banana plugs 0534E directly from the website Nakamichi plugs BFA 0534E, Nakamichi connectors, banana plug, RCA plug, Nakamichiplug.com , Nakamichi Audio Speaker Banana Plug connector, Nakamichi plug, Nakamichi connector

Ordered on 19th April, was shipped from China and received at delhi on 5th May, total cost $24 for 24 plugs :)

Overall the plugs are bang for the buck, very decent quality and absolutely VFM. I have not seen any premium banana plugs before, so cannot comment or put any comparison. The connection to the receiver and speakers is absolutely firm and tight. Very much recommended to people looking for cheap plugs.

Thanks SS for the info. I just recd my AVR yesterday. yet to buy the Transformer and then the speakers for the same,

Can you help me by telling, what difference do these Banana plugs make in connections? Are they mandatorily needed? or we can wire the speakers without these plugs as well, but then the connections stay lose?

I am not educated about them....

Thanks

I had also thought about ordering from ebay, but people have discussing in forums that items ordered from ebay and the company website are sometimes different, as there are lots of fakes floating around.

Should have ordered from Nakamichi then
Let then items reach me , then only confirm the Quality.

On transformer side, i just bought Guru Transformer from Lajpat rai Market. 1.5 KV for 4100 Rs and am happy with It, Build Quality is excellent.

Banana Plugs or Spades or any other connectors are required when you regularly rewire the speakers and AVR. Bare cable is most VFM.
Some people notice sound change when they connect via connectors. I have ordered Spades and lets see if the sound changes.

They are not mandatory. Connections with Bare wire are not loose of done properly.

that was great ..

people using bare wires can do silver solder coat the wire ends to make better contact like banana plugs

i am looking for bulk RCAs 100+.
50Rs /pc - moderately well made ones any one?
seen some bargain sales but price + shipping fails to comply the equation

i got neutrik/rean rca jacks for about 55/- from lamington road, shipped to home in bangalore. i think it was nys373. havent soldered then yet, too lazy:). let me know if you are interested and I can dig up the email/phone of the dealer.

This is not the original Nakamichi that makes the legendary tape players. This is some fraud company based in China.Though the logo has been copied, if you look at the name it uses a different font and letter size.

Cheers

Bammmm Venkat!

Thats good observation. True, its some fake, with a different font and a copied logo. But as long as the job gets done for SS, its okay.

@Jatin, can you please PM me the shop name from where you bought the Step Down transformer?

Is it an automatic or Isolation Xformer?
And you said the Brand is Guru right?
Other than testing with the multimeter any other way of confirming that it will work fine with my AVR?

I am just a bit too paranoid about the power supply and hence want to be too sure that I don't land up blowing the power circuit.

You using this Xformer on some US console with 110volts?

Shop 292, Lajpat rai market, Mahamai and Guru Electronics
Brand is GURU and is trusted here in Delhi Area.

No idea about Testing the transformer.

my Transformer feeds a Sub of 300 Watts.
One other Transformer of 50 W feeds the Sony Blu - ray player.

Many members here use transformer to play US devices, The risk is there but minimal with good transformer.

Banana plugs are used mainly for ease and convenience. Some people argue that using bare wire is better that using low quality plugs as it degrades the performance. Otherwise also there is no scientific proof of banana plugs improving SQ even if premium plugs are used. But a decently made plug should do fine.

I wanted to use banana plugs for convenience of connecting/disconnecting the speakers wires whenever required, since my speakers are not permanently placed and I need to move them while cleaning or rearranging stuff inside the room.

Yes thats true. Even I was aware that this is not the original Nakamichi which went kaput before ordering the plugs from the other website. But even then, people have not been complaining that these are completely fake and are of reasonable decent quality. There are even fakes of these not original nakamichi plugs. :p

Here is discussion if nakamichi made banana plugs http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6082

Nice dude. Even I am using nakamichi banana plugs but mine are the conventional ones.

Also where did you get that shrink tube from ? Nice work there as well.

Thanks. These heat shrinks were ordered a long time ago from KMD @ TE :D

I've been using them in my HT and Stereo setup for a few months now. But, back when I ordered, they did not have the packing like now :)

I thought so  I wish his thread was still alive. Wanted to order these.

what is "KMD @ TE"

There was a dealer named Katmandude at tech forum Techenclave who first started the importing business, he used to get anything from US as per your request at a very reasonable price. He also sold these miscellaneous computer stuff which is usually difficult to get.

The Spade Plugs arrived yesterday, Can't notice any difference in Sound, But may be they need a burn in too. :-).

They fit perfectly with 14 AWG Van damme up LC cable.

HI Jatin,
Thanks to you, I made my way till Lajpat Rai Market and bouht myself the Guru Transformer for 1KVA. I was confused which one to buy and even though money not being the main factor, size and bulkiness became one.

The 1KVA was decently compact and looked much like a stablizer and it did the job well. Came home, tested it with the Denon 1911 and even though I didn't have speakers I still tested the playback via Media Player.

So far so good. Thanks again.
