My New TT : The Cello from Scheu Analog

Congratulations Asitda. Learnt from Jochen that your TT was being prepared to send to you, but I could not make it in time for an audition.

Happy Listening:)

congrats Asit. How much did you pay for this ? I am also tempted to get one of this from Jochen. Looks very elegant.

Congratulations!
I was surprised to see that there is no earthing cable from the TT arm to be connected the earthing socket of the phono pre-amp,
Either tonearm is non metallic or/and signal wires are very very very well shielded. Only taking a guess though. :p

Asit, congrats for your new TT. From pictures it looks solid and classy. We all here are willing to know some detailed review of the same.

1. RB 251 is an excellent tonearm, almost has become a standard, does the TT provides tonearm height adjustment? this is handy when one changes cartridge and its not from SHURE/ORTOFON

2. I have heard it has switchable 33/45, how is the drive and speed stability?

3. Did you notice any inner groove distortion? I have found it to be common in almost all TTs (some higher some lesser) no matter how you deal with it

4. whats the platter weight?

5. I guess the operations are fully manual for such a high-end TT?

you should compare it with a popular entry level TT in terms of sound stage, attack, ability to reproduce more quieter moments, momentary thump, deep and detailed bass response, natural voice reproduction.....

why do you want to change 640P? are you not satisfied with it? I have found it to be incredibly VFM though I have no experience of more costly phono stages

one more query - is for the OM series the cartridge body is same and the needle changes or the whole cart-needle assembly is different for OM10/30?

Anant, SoM, Captain, Santosh, Manav, Sid, Prem, Venu, dilli (sorry forgot your real name), Hiten and Arnab,

Thank you all for your encouragaing responses.

I am indebted to quite a few people. Bluu renewed my interest in the Scheu Cello. Then Prem and Arj really encouraged me. We had quite a lot of discussion and decided this could be a good solution within my budget. Prem was also the one who first told me about the Jasmine Audio phono stage (although I am going to try out the Trigon first and compare it with Nighthawk). Vasu (myriad) and Pratim helped with the name of the shipper. Manoj (mksharan) gifted me a few record sleeves (25 I think) and generally encouraged me about vinyl. Mahiruha first gave me the phone number of a good street-side vendor of new, used and NOS vinyl records in Kolkata. Both Manoj and Pratim helped me get a few vinyl-related things on-line. Just yesterday, I collected a Clearaudio "Elixir of Sound" stylus cleaner (almost non-alcoholic) from Pratim because we ordered together. Finally, thanks to Jochen - for packing the TT impeccably (I'll describe the packing later) and also patiently answering all my queries patiently. I assure there were quite a few queries. Sridhar can testify to that when I bought the Leben from him. Now I think Jochen also knows. Most of these exchanges took place over e-mail. I prefer that way, because over the phone, I tend to forget issues unless I am well prepared with notes.

Hiten,
I just learned from Jochen that with Rega arms (at least this one), the earthing cable comes with one (black) of the stereo cables. Therefore one does not need any extra earthing. Well, I cannot complain, because there is absolutely no hum, or for that matter any other noise. When the stylus drops, there is that little noise, and that's it.

I have to go. The rest later.

Regards.

Congrats Asit! Great choice. I saw the table at Jochen's before it was shipped to you and let me tell you, he treats new tables like they are infants. Gloves and everything!

The build quality is superb for this price point. I hope the table gives you many months and years of vinyl joy!

Cheers!

Congrats, Asit.

Good move upgrading to the Super OM30. That's a very good cart.

We await your detailed review of the Scheu.

Hi Asit
Great going, glad to see you are getting back into Vinyl. Where did you get access to the Trigon?

cheers

Congratulation's Asit. I checked out your table at Jochen's place. Beautiful turn table. I just find the Rega tone arm out of place, from a cosmetic point of view. At the end, its all about how it sounds and I am sure the Rega will do well.

The lack of grounding is interesting. I don't know Rega have avoided this. Its the same on my Rega RP1.

Congrats, Asitda .....
Good, I would get to see another gem, when I visit you next visit to 'our' city. Must not repeat 'last' time.

many of us (outstation members) are in dark about the pricing in India, everything right from handling to performance seems perfect so the price tag becomes interesting to know
