Friends and experts,

i would like to buy a second TV now. Currently iam using Panasonic 21" CRT.
planning to upgrade to LCD/LED

Budget : 15000/- - 17000/- (As low as possible)
Screen : Above 21" (As Big AS possible)
LCD or LED(if led is available within this price )
Brand : any good brand (Samsung/videocon/LG/Sony/Panasonic...)

Currently iam using Videocon D2H and planning to take HD Connection after getting new TV.

please help me.

Thanks for your reply. Which one will be available led or lcd?
we dont prfer thoshiba and all.. only samsung/lg/sony/videocon/panasonic..

could you suggest any good model with maximum features within the range..? (USB with video play back is compulsary :licklips:)

from some other topics, i came to know that, for 22", 'HD ready' is enough (no need of Full HD)..

dear friend,why do u want to buy a 22 inch lcd/led tv?
is it because of power bill which u think u might be saving? or is it due to any eye sight problems that u have for which u want to go green with lcd/led tv & lessen the risk of more eye sight loss ,..or do u have acute space shortage in ur house such that as u want to buy a second tv, u cannot put anything beyond a 22 inch lcd/led tv? or is it primarily just for the fad of buying a HDTV lcd/led tv & wanting to find urself in the Hip "n" crowd with the latest new shiny tv of urs that u would proudly like to display to evryone else for the Hdtv

&...all this on a 22" hdtv of yours?
If upgrading to a lcd hdtv is solely for the name of upgrading just for the heck of it,....then my friend,u would be much sorry with such upgradation....as this would fall much shorter of expectation!

If Hdtv display is really ur concern, try a bigger size Hdtv(if NOT a FullHD Tv) atleast of 32" size, where u can get some benefit of hd videos with the Fhd(i) transmisssion from the new dth service u r planning to get!

I know u r stressed of budget, but instead of wasting for hd on a very small 22"tv,plz wait for some time more & save some more money in buying a proper Hdtv of atleast 32"size, where u will distinctly find the hdtv edge worth the money.

Take it as a friendly advice !....anyway festive time r just ensuing soon,so u can get the best deals then...hope u will get ur tv much to u satisfaction!

*if u r confused about how big are ur 21"CRT(4:3)Tv, 22"LCD(16:9)Tv & a 32"LCD(16:9) side-by-side, see this;

also u can check here > TV Calculator

hope this might b useful! :)

+1 to indiglo. I bought a 26" LCD last year and i thought the size is enough for my room. But now I'm thinking about bigger screens and is not satisfied with the picture quality of the current panasonic 26".

Dear Indiglo.. really a very usefull post. let me answer your questions first.

is it due to any eye sight problems that u have for which u want to go green with lcd/led tv & lessen the risk of more eye sight loss
Ya.. this is one concern.

is it primarily just for the fad of buying a HDTV lcd/led tv
This too.... :licklips:

Ya as you said, i was stressed with my budget. My ultimate aim was an LED Tv but because of 'money matters' i decided to go for a small LCD first then after one year a big LED

But after reading your post, i changed my mind and planning to go for a 32" LCD TVnow.

Now Let me give some good models of 32" LCD with maximum features and minimum price (USB with Movie playback should be there) i think Videocon is cheapest. right?

whatever u buy don't take ur chances with Lloyd, videocon, akai, sansui, etc, etc other Indian Brands who panels are best unknown & ass flaky !....If it's ur own tv, which u would personally view daily & like to cherish for sometime(& not buying for somebody else/gift),get a sony/sammy/lg/panny... & if u r short of fund, get the same from the local grey mkt.,from a good dealer whom u have confidence upon & offers some kind of warranty! It's ur money afterall!.

Search the forum for 32"lcd/led tv recommendations, & u will get more than enough!
As, a rule of thumb in Indian tv mkt. Samsung& LG offers the Maximum Features in the minimum price & are the Most VFM!

Yesterday i went to the shop and find two models.
One LG 32LK311 @ Rs 21000 and the second is Samsung 32" (forgot the model number) @ Rs.21000

Iam confused between this two. Samsung is more clear but doesnot support video play back from USB. LG supports Divx playback from USB.
what is your opinion friends?

sony cx52 32" with some usb video support is for 22k with sure spva panel
And sony cx32 32" with some mkv file support is 19k (which is most probably a non-spva panel)

Both the above r full hd and grey market price...

cx32 is HD only,NOT FHD, cx42 is FHD!,...afaik...both cx32 & cx42 have guaranteed SPVA panel!
ikkru,if u r confused at this stage & cant focus on any particular tv, best to do is first u can go to respective tv company's website(india zone) & select ur tv first, according to ur needs & budget. That way, u can get to virtually see all the tv's that the respective company currently offers & decide upon a tv which u deem perfect for u.//The virtual search is quite essential in the sense that, in the Real world of dealers shop & co. showrooms, u can NEVER find all the tv in one stage or altogether & the companies now regular update their websites with the latest models,so u will have the best knowledge abt the current models which ur local tv salesman might never have or rather some smart alec of tv salesman may lead u astray on ur buying plans.//You can thereafter visit HFV forums or alternative make a google search to know the pros & cons of tv .After all ur research,u can ring up the various tv dealers/showrooms locally & take a demo of the tv for real,if its available(with full proper information) & thereby only finally purchase a tv which gives u the maximum viewing satisfaction & best return for ur hard-earned money!
I think u still have to get a bit more involved in purchasing of ur tv,particularly when budget is limited & takeup more virtual research to find ur ideal tv.But 1 thing sure,u have come here to the right place & there r lot of helpful souls to guide u to buy ur own dream tv !

Anyway get involved :)

hope this might b useful! :)

this calculator has been a great tool and an eye-opener. but i had a few doubts. i'm extremely weak at maths since school :clapping:

1. when we go from a tv size 25" to 50" are we actually going more than double the size in viewing area ?

2. i tried the calculator and it says viewing area @ 16:9 ...

25" = 266.83 sq. in.
50" = 1067.52 sq. in.

So is 50" diagonal about 4 times the size of 25" diagonal ? i thought it should be more like double, right ?

Regards,

Rana

TV size is measured diagonally, so doubling the diagonal increases area by 4 times.

Earlier, I had calculated using the simple Pythagoras theorem (5th std maths?) and found that to replace 29" 4:3 CRT, I will need at least 36" 16:9 based on the 4:3 picture height and that 32" 16:9 will not be enough.

This page is definitely a great creation to help in understanding TV size and difference between 4:3 and 16:9

So is 50" diagonal about 4 times the size of 25" diagonal ? i thought it should be more like double, right ?

I will give a very crude (non-maths) example. If the diagonal is twice, the length and width would also be nearly twice. Hence the viewing area (which is length multiplied by width) will be nearly four times.

a minor amendment and sorry for that. As said by indiglo, the cx32 is a non hd version...

@indiglo - on what grounds you claim the cx32 to equip spva panel mate ?. Have you checked the hidden menu ? If so is there anything which says about the panel of the lcd ?. I cannot find any panel info unlike the cx52 and i heard that since it is a lower end model it cannot possess an spva panel....

^^ mate read first...i said "afaik"...i didn't claim anything!.....ok,i should have put a official disclaimer if u wanted that!.....but can i know on what grounds r u straightway refuting that it is guaranteed Non-spva panel, just because it is a budget model?....what alternative panel according to you should the cx32 have then...TN panels?
Honestly i have Not come across any sony lcd/led tv with panel lottery issue registered in india yet...The general idea is that,Sony has so far refrained from doing lotteries with their panel & usually gets their spva panels from joint S-lcd Spva Panel venture, since thy have a stake there & profitable to source one.Morever Cx(Connected Series) is Not the lowest Starting Lcd tv range from Sony, that distinction goes to the Bx(Basic Series),the starting line of Sony lcd tv ,where u may doubt,if u want to!...still i believe in Sony more then the rest to put the correct spva panels in their lcd tvs & the overall consenus at HFV & others is also about same!

btw,i dont have the cx32 to check out the panel, but have the cx42 & i allmost know for certain(Not from its service menu, its complicated to decipher[google doesn't help],but the general display characteristics u can find out if u r careful enough, to notice difference between amva & spva)that it's a NOT a Amva or other cheap panel but a SPVA only! If u closely follow my threads,i myself was a samsung lcd panel victim & experienced there & can now allmost visibly identify if it's a Amva or spva. Here is my Samsung Amva(aa) problem thread > http://www.hifivision.com/televisio...i-get-guaranteed-samsung-spva-sq01-panel.html ,if u didn't find that.To tell you honestly,i have No such issues about the cx42 & so i'm hopefully sure it's a spva panel only! Anyway, coming back to the Cx 32 ,i feel Cx42 & Cx32 are quite similar models probably sharing the same panel type, one being HD & the other being FHD!... & that's the Best Bet from me for now of telling u & all that both cx32 & cx42 have spva panel for the tv!

At the very end,i would just say if u like ur tv(pq etc) & know about all its features, & dont have any videophile issues, u really don't need to get so hard on what panels u get,... ur tv is NEVER perfect!

The difference between the panel used in Sony and samsung is that in sony a particular model and size will just have one panel for the region. So all the people who buy say a CX520 of particular size will get the same panel in that region.
Sony uses panels from S-lcd,sharp,AUO,CMO and LG.The panels like CMO and LG are used in low end models of sizes 32" and 26" like BX series and perhaps even CX32/CX42 series.

The X-reality based Sony most certainly have a SPVA or possibly Sony own tech Hybrid-FPA like in HX92 series.

Now in the samsung you may get any type of panel so one buying a D550 may get a spva ,other a AMVA other a SMVA.

@indiglo
It would be helpfull if you could post the picture of he CX42,unlike the service menu of previous year Sony and X-reality based models where the panel info is shown in the first page. The 2011 BE3 based Sony tvs don't reveal that in the first or main page.

but even if Sony is currently using other panels, the difference appears to be minimal, unlike samsung where u could allmost visibly find the difference,i for one being quite happy with the p.q the cx42 offers w/o much issues...though i dont like to tinker much with s.m,lets c what i can do....btw,there a lot of cx32 owners out here who might be helping here appreciably,if they can!

Very much right indiglo. I done a lot of reserch.. and found so many models. but the problem with virutal search are,
1. if we like a model in the company website, it is verymuch difficult to find in local store.
2. if we found a model in local store, it may not be in the company website (for example, i found a model in local store but didnt found it in samsung india site. but i found it in samsung australia site,
3. huge price difference between site and shope. In website the prices may be very high, so that we never looks for its features, as out of budget item. but actually the prices are low.

but still iam reserching...

First of all did i offend you ?. Did i say that what you were saying is wrong ?. Then why are you getting so tensed mate ?. I didnt ask you to come with any evidence for your contention and i am least bothered about your statements. I visited Chroma and the guy in Chroma told that this is not a SPVA panel but some other name which i cant remember and in AVS forum or some other forum i was told that it comes with the same AMVA panel which is found in the bx series and not SPVA for sure. Moreover the panel info was unclear in the hidden menu during my check with Chroma.

So i suspected the nature of the panel and just i want to CLARIFY with you. Thats all.

Moreover did I say Sony adopts panel lottery system ?. I suspected the panel tech used in the cx32 because the bx series (ofc a lower end model ) uses AMVA panels and since the cx52's (no mkv support ) price is 3k more in grey as against the cx32 which supports mkv for 32". The BX series was a series name which was used earlier and might be sony might have adopted the CX as a new series and because the CX is a new series it is wrong to assume that all the CX will have the same SPVA only . This is how the manufacturer will try to confuse consumers mate which makes us think that a CX 52 and CX 32 use SPVA panel since both are named CX .

For instance take BE 3 engine which was only found in the BX series. But now even the CX series (both the cx32/42) incorporate them.

You may be correct but you cannot deny the tricks played by the manufacturer in luring customers who think they get more than what they paid for ..

Finally its upto you to put official disclaimer or not...
