Need advise to buy a $1000 amplifier

I have an option to buy a vintage Class AB amp (Yamaha M70) on Craig's list for 300 usd.

1. Does it work well with ls50?
2. Is 300 usd a fair price?
3. Is there a quick way to confirm that it does not need repairs?

The only to check if it works ok is to power it on and listen to it-connected to speakers of course!

Can any suggest me the best setting for yamaha RX-V800 i m totally confused in setting.
I have Telome 5.2 setup
5 cube and 2 subwoofer active and pasive.
amp perfoms very good.
but i m missing some quality in surround.
so please give me all setting to be done in amp.
room size 15x15
