Let us know what you need. I can offer you a DAC/Headphone amp combo. If thats what you are looking for. Pm me for details.

Hey Akstorm ...
I connect my laptop to yamaha avr to play music. Music quality is ok, but surely there is room for improvement. Mid range and bass is good, but trebles is a bit dull.

If a add a dac in between, will there be any improvement??

Something like...
Laptop - FiioE10k- yamaha avr
If this idea works...can you suggest a dac ...in a price range 5 to 10k please...
Thanks in advance..

Depends on how you connect to the AVR.
1. Are you using the onboard DAC on the AVR and feeding it digital signal from the laptop
or
2. Are you using the onboard dac on the laptop and feeding the avr with a line out/Spkr out from the laptop

In case 1 I do not think you will find much difference as the inbuilt DAcs on AVRs are pretty decent

If it is case 2, you would benifit from the extra dac but i would say it would be redundant to spend the money on the dac since you already have a dac built into the AVR.

In any of the case an AVR is not the best choice for music listning. What I would suggest is a Stereo amp dedicated for music. If you can spend the money get a entry level Stereo integrated amplifier from a brand that suits your sound signature preferance (search the forum, therer is enough threads on the different amps available on the market). If you do not want to spend too much money I would like to suggest that apart from getting a dac also get a Class D amp like the Smsl sa60 (HiVi makes some too) for 3-4k and that ould give you better sound quality overall. Also you can look at DAC/Amp combos like the smsl AD18 for about 10k which will serve both your needs. :D

Hope i have confused you enough.

oooh... no no bro...

U did not confuse me. :)
This has been a confusion subject for me earlier. But now i am ok.

Earlier I connected laptop to avr using 3.5headphone jack. In that case my laptop dac was working. Later our Fm MaSh explained me that sending a digital signal with hdmi cable etc will make the inbuilt dac in avr work.

Thanks a lot for all the helpful people here :)

I understood that a dedicated sterio amp would be better than an entry level avr.

In fact, for a long time I was disappointed with my yamaha avr that music quality is just not upto the minimum expectation. Later I found that the real culprit is lack of good music source(player).

Now I am trying to get a good budget music source/player. Thanks for all your inputs bro...:clapping:
