Need FS for my Denon 2113

Thanks for the detailed review and comparison. I am also looking at Dali Z 5 as the best option. Just had a query, what will be the space required behind the speakers for best sound. Problem is I won't be able to leave much space behind the speaker.

The store at which i did the sound test told me that even 2 inches would be enough , is that correct ?

Dali is a front ported speaker. Rear ported speakers need about a feet between speakers and the wall for good bass. In a front ported speaker, rear gap doesn't matter. You can keep anything you like. 2 inches is completely fine

.
not really . close to the wall will increase the boom due to the 3 db per wall boost given to the lower frequency irrespective of the port

Also, it would be helpful if you can PM me the place from which you bought and the final price for the Denon and Dali 5.

I second that. No need to worry about the space as like rear ported one.

Cannot PM as you have to complete min posts I think. I got it from Vipul audio, Chennai. You can get 15 to 20% disc on Mrp if you bargain hard. But take as many audition as possible before taking the final plunge.

Back to Chennai for few days and got a chance to listen to my new setup. Ordered some of the blurays and audio cds during amazon offers just to test my setup.

My short impressions :-

Source : Sony BDP S480
Amp : Denon 2113 music(pure direct mode) movie(fronts set to large & stereo mode)

Music :

Maahi ve, patakha from Highway audio cd - The soundstage was mindblowing and mids were flowing smooth. It really sounded like as if the instruments were played just before and around me.

Imagine dragons audiocd - I am bit disappointed as the entire album sounded muffled and unclear though I would blame the recording quality and mixing.

Played some of the songs through Denon usb. I was surprised at the quality its able to produce even with 320Kbps Mp3 since about 80% of my collection was in 320 only.
Thrown some Flacs on it. Guess what its able to play them without any issues. I was under impression that it can able to play only mp3,wav,wma as the formats mentioned in the manual. Compared some songs 320mp3 vs flac and flac is able to give full bodied sound but I have to crank up the volume more for flac to hear details.

Movie :

Transformer Bluray - I was blown away with the lows which goes really deep and tight as if I have an sub. I am more than happy with the performance of movies even with the 2.0 channel. Mids sounded soft and clear while the highs gets bit harsh. Eventhough I have seen this movies couple of times I played them again and again just for the sound quality. It feels like as if I am sitting in a theater. I miss the surround effects but otherwise I am pretty satisfied with the fronts itself. Now, I have postponed my plans of getting sub for sometime:D.

Overall, I feel the movie buffs in me got satisfied even without the full 5.1 setup. May be I underestimated my setup for movie. I guess making 4.0 setup by adding 2 surrounds will keep me occupied without the upgrade itch for sometime:ohyeah:.

My comments :
+Sounstage
+Movie playability even in 2.0
+Sound scalability

-Have to adjust speaker placement everytime I change my sitting position for even few inches. I guess its due to limited space for breathing.

Now, queries :
1) Is my speaker placement correct?
2) Any tweaks to improve sound quality?

Regards,
Karthick

Theoretically it completely makes sense, still Dali's manual says, mim 6 - 8 in. gap from rear wall...don't know why!!! haven't been able to test though so far...

From my exp:

1. If you place them towards corners of the room (around 12 feet of gap b/w them / as far as possible), you will get better sound stage..(initially do not try any towing in)
2. Just see, if a gap of 12 to 15 inch (from real wall) improves quality...(just give it a try).

Enjoy!! :)

Thnks HiFiMan.
But my listening position is much more complex where if you see the layout, only the no 1 seating position is the most balanced listening postion whereas 2 and 3 are far way from left hence I have to tow in for 2 and 3 positions even after that I cant get the balance.

It seems only the ideal listening position for me is 1.

Congrats on ur purchase..can u tell me the price of Zensor 5 which u bought...Actually I planned last month for the purchase..but due to some budget constraints couldn't able to make it up.

Hmmm...Ok..1 more and final try...put your right speaker more towards right side wall (do ensure 6 to 10 inch gap) without any toe in. For left side speaker does not look possible to shift more left, otherwise that also you could try..!!!
Gap from real wall looks fine.

Let us know if it improves anything...

I had this type of setting, and it was sounding very good, though now my living room is messed up...
