Thanks mate!! please tellme full address when you get it.

On amazon there is a combo offer for cart, audioquest brush and some other item. I wanted to know which deal you went for?

Hello anm,
I checked the deal you are talking about. It looks very good. You certainly need the audio quest brush and probably through amazon. Its better to buy directly from amazon rather than going through 20 north. That tracking force gauge is also useful tool for cartridge fitting.
Thanks.

just wondering if amazon will ship it to India - shipping costs and delivery time.

Well amazon does deliver to India. i have bought few items from them. Anothe site is needledoctor.com who hs variety of vinyl related stuff. I have also bought from them. 20 north will promise you 14 day delivery but it will not turn up before one month. I am getting this Shure Cart from Calcutta tomorrow. I will let you know about it. The reason I am going for it is it comes with a stylus cleaning brush and aparently nobody has 2m RED in stock as of now in India.
Thnaks.

Anant,

If you order anything from 20north and opt for the gift option (that means less than 10000/- item), you will be sent directly from US through courier (DHL or so). They will deliver it your home in about 15 days time and not take 30 days etc. as is the case in deliveries of normal items.

The reason is when you order through the normal route, they club many items in the consignment and send to India, taking a long time at customs. If you order the Gift type, then you are shipped individually by name and directly and not clubbed with anything else.

My recommendation is choose any cartridge you want - Shure, Ortofon, Audio Technica etc. but check on 20north before going elsewhere.

Right now the Shure M97 and AT440MLa are going on great prices.

Cheers.

the AT440MLa is a fine line stylus if i remember right? if so the buyer better be sure he's able to get his alignment spot on otherwise a badly set fine line stylus is more likely to do damage to the vinyl than a normal fatter tip stylus due to the fact that there's more 'tolerance' in the fat tip than the fine line one.

thanks Stieve. Anil had already pointed this out in a pm :)
What do you guys think about the denon dl 110 - high output MC?

ah good to hear that.

dl 110 is a good cart, but if i remember, the price is around $100 and shipping extra. for a 7k table... do check your arm first. there are measurements for making sure the cart matches your tonearm (resonance wise). dont remember the site, you first find your tonearm mass from the manual, then do a google search to find a calculator to enter mass values of your tonearm and cart to see if they match.

I have got this shure cartridge now. looks really wondeful. But now comes the difficult part to put that beautiful looking thing into place. I am not too confident how it will go but I will definitely take a plunge tonight. Hopefully I don't have to go through that saying "failures are the pillars of success".:)

squarewave,

i'd beg to differ strongly. sure, as you go up the chain, the sound gets better, but you can experience the magic of vinyl even with a 7k second hand player. as long as your stylus is clean and not too old. a lot of people can't afford mega bucks record players and there are tons of less expensive options at many pocket friendly price points that outdo cd's bigtime. i've got a 3k hmv player back home picked up from the street that plays only halfway through the record due to a faulty tonearm and to my ears that humble player playing through some unknown cheapo speakers the size of my hand, without even an amp (it has a built in amp) outdoes big buck cd players and dacs i've heard (read reimyo, wadia). all depends on whether you dig the vinyl sound or not, vinyl sound comes through irrespective of price points :)

Hi Stevie,
I am sure that is a LP sound lover talking :)
Technically speaking, how can a 3k HMV player outperform a Reimyo/wadia source given the same setup ?

As an owner of a Reimyo piece (although modified and improved upon the stock sound signature), I can say that it is right up there in sound quality with the big digital AND vinyl rigs of the world. Vinyl just has a different sound presentation that digital can never do, but I'll be darned if the Reimyo is not right up there with the most analog sounding digital there is.

hi square wave,

hehe yeah thorough lp lover! somehow vinyl has 'body' and 'soul' that cd does not have. i still remember how disappointed i was at hearing my first cd, how artificial and plastic it sounded compared to tape. even scratchy lp records have that 'soul'. that's what comes shining through irrespective of price points. and that was what i was encouraging people to go out and experience even if a second hand player is all they can afford.

its like chocolate and vanilla icecream. as you go up price points and brands am sure a more expensive chocolate icecream will taste and feel better in the mouth than a cheapo chocolate icecream. but there's no way its going to taste like vanilla or the other way around.

the reason i made the point in my previous post was so that vinyl lovers who want to get into vinyl dont get scared away thinking only mega buck rigs are the thing to do. lots of people dont know too much bout vinyl, its scary cos there are so many things to adjust and get right before playing. there's enjoyment to be had even from a humble second hand player.

the reimyo will most certainly outperform other dacs and cd players but no way its gonna make a cd sound like vinyl. of course, i reiterate again, either you're gonna dig the vinyl sound or not. am not claiming its a universal 'truth' :)
