Hola Friends,

I recently bought Sony BDV E3200 HT system. I was a bit tight on budget and hence decided to go for this HT. Keeping in mind that its an entry level consumer HT system, I was not expecting much. However, basic features like controlling bass and treble is missing. All I get is a pre programmed equalizer. TV sound output is via HT and sometimes I feel that the bass output is too much. I have checked the manual and there is nothing called bass control. My partner she loves this HT but I am not sure what needs to be done. Hence I seek your advice on the following questions

1. Whether we can control the bass or not? If yes, how and if No, what are my alternatives.
2. The wire provided is falling short. What are my alternatives?
3. HT is connected to HDMI port 1 and Tata sky to HDMI port 2. However when I change the HT to HDMI port 2, it doesn't work. I even tried setting up the HT from the scratch. I am currently using LG LA6910 series TV.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Ranjeet

Hi

I went through the owners manual and i would suggest you keep the MUSIC EQ on ROCK setting for optimal balance of bass + treble.

If you are viewing HD channels, the output should be proper. Analog SD channels are too bassy.

More bass also comes depending on where you have placed the subwoofer...try changing the position and play the same song and see the difference.....

Everything is learnt through trial and error.....patience is a virtue....i am sure you will slowly like the system.....

1. There is no Bass & Treble controls so keep it on ROCK (Music EQ) and try the subwoofer in different places to check...
2. You can always buy similar gauge wire and extend provided you insulate the bare wire joints correctly and also you insert + and - in the proper color terminals..
3. As i read in the manual you can connect the TV through optical IN...and there seems to be only one HDMI out which goes to the TV for displaying what is being played. So if the Tata Sky is connected to the 2nd HDMI port of the TV, output will come from TV speakers and if the TV is connected to the SONY system through OPTICAL IN , you will enjoy the sound once you put the SONY on Source TV mode....try and check

All the best

Its good to see...that one is taking a pain of writing such a long post for a unknown....person ....hope we all do good for each other....in this way...in every aspects of life.....

Thanks a lot( and I sincerely mean it) for clearing all the doubts.

Hi

You are welcome.

Please carefully do the suggested settings and check.....

Would advise you use the system for sometime before you think of going for a new setup.

AVR + Speakers are always better than a Home Theatre in a Box....so look out for good deals in the pre owned section " For Sale by Owner" or Hi Fi Ads....you may get something worthwhile...all the best

Hi Group,

I also same system purchased 3 months ago. After hearing the performance with an AV set-up, i am just regretting my purchase :( I am looking to have a AV setup. I am seeing whether i can use this system somehow in the setup. I request your suggestions on

a). Whether it is possible to add additional Subwoofer to the system? Looks like sony has proprietary speaker connecters and and no additional sub woofer port in the player..Looks like the existing one is a passive sub.

b). Is there a possibility i can replace the subwoofer with another one i.e Yamaha. Yahama has RCA connectors but again the same issue with the compatibility of connector types between player and sub.

c). The impedance rating of the existing sub that came by default is 6 ohm as i see on the back side of the speaker. So, can i use any Active sub with same impedance or more impedance(say 8). Does impedance matter if i use an Active subwoofer? Since player is also an amplifier and sub also has built-in amp, will that cause any issue??

I am completly new to this. Sorry for long list of questions :) I have tried enquiring at various shops but everyone wants me to start from scratch and i can not use this system at all.

Hi

If you want to add a powered sub to the Sony system then you need to get a sub which has HIGH LEVEL Inputs and Outputs.....refer to the below link to understand

https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-hook-up-a-subwoofer-to-a-stereo-system/

In short....wires L+R will come from the sony speaker connectors and go to the sub L + R connectors and after doing some settings, you can enjoy some improved sound....

Last option is to sell this system and buy an entry level system like Yamaha 196 etc.
