Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum. Needed small help from you guys. I plan to buy a LED TV but unable to decide which make and what size should I go for.

Currently planning for 46" LED TV but want to check if it's good for our hall. Can anyone help me give some options/suggestions.

Thanks,
Andy

You have not mentioned your budget, Whether you are looking for 3D?
If budget is not constraint go for Samsung 46D8000 or Sony 46HX925 :)
or 3D startup on Samsung 46D6000 or Sony 46EX720
or without 3D Samsung 46D5000/5500/5900 or Sony 40EX520

If you are looking for Plasma : (your viewing room should not be bright, because plasma cannot produce brightness like LEDs, but gives you natural colors... This is AFAIK, if anything wrong, plz excuse).

Panasonic 50VT20/V20 if available in market
Samsung 51D550.

Thanks,
Praveen.

hi
As praveen said.. depends on your room size and budget..
I have been using Samsung Smart 40D6000 Series 3D from one year.. very impressed with it.. i guess for LED go with Sony or Samsung..

Make sure you bargain.. with Samsung..you end up getting good price.. Ugadi nearby.. lots of offers.... try ur luck...

8. Any other feature you are looking for such as 3D support on the HDTV, DLNA capabilities etc.
3D support if worth it.

Guys I put some basic things for the TV that I'm looking for. 3D TV I'm thinking of but many people are suggesting against it.May go for either 46" LED or 40" 3D TV.

Is 3D TV good? My eyes started straining little bit when I watched the 3D demo.

Not in favor of Plasma

If you are willing to purchase from the grey market,if you simply want a big screen tv get the Sony 46" CX520 available for around 49k or less its a lcd tv.

But if you do want a LED-lit lcd then the 46" EX520 costs around 65k grey, its the same as cx520 but with LED instead of CCFL.

3d is a waste if you ask me.

Not sure if we have a grey market here in Hyderabad.
Can you add more details on why you think 3D is a waste?
Any reason for preferring sony over other brands?

^^^^ yes.. prices have gone down for sony, lookslike clearance sale of 2011 models.
I have 40EX720 only, SD and HD is really superb, I have not tried 3D yet. some suggest Hx800 2010 models, if you are lucky to get.

If your viewing distance is 13 feet, buy 46'' or more, whichever brand you decide.

And i agree with adder, 3D is a complete waste for the following reasons:

1. It gives one hell of a head-ache, even the lg non-flicker ones.

2. You won't find enough 3d content in India and even if you do, it'll be damn expensive.

3. Upscaling 2D to 3D simply ruins whatever you're watching.

4. 3D glasses are expensive(non lg) and you get 2 at most with the tv.

5. You'll look downright silly wearing those ugly 3D glasses.
I would any day prefer buying Ray-ban which comes at the same cost!:ohyeah:

6. 3D effects are over-rated. Even if you're okay with the problems above, 3D effects haven't evolved so much to be amazing.

7. In the end, it'll still give you a bad headache!:D

All my led's are 3D able and i've used those glasses just once till date.

For 3d refer to ak47post he pretty much sums it up.

As far as Sony for the sole reason that you don't find tvs from any other brand in indian grey markets located in southern india.

No idea about grey market in hyderabad.

If buying showroom you can go for the samsung series 6 range of tvs,Sony also has the clearance sale going on,but cannot match the price in grey market.

If you are not in a hurry you may want to wait for the 2012 models ,samsung is supposed to start selling them by next month.

In Response to your clarifications
1. Even I felt headache when I watched demo for sometime
2. What about on the net?
3.Looked ok to me of whatever I watched but not great though
4.Most probably I will go for LG so that will not be a factor here
5.I will stay at my home wearing those so it really doesn't matter how I look. I'm not going to have a photo shoot.
6.I agree with you on this
7.Agree with you again.

Finally I think it's about the head ache thing if it's really that bad I don't think it's worth it.

So you have a LED TV with 3D which model brand?

I don't think there is Gray market here so will close that option for now.
So if it's showroom Sony or Samsung?

I don't mind waiting but how long would that have to be and what would be my benefits? I mean any good features which may come up in the 2012 models?

Tv's I have(i bought all of them in June/July 2011):

1. Samsung 46D8000 Price-1.30L(Grey Market)

The best one i have. I have a huge double height glass pane directly opposite to it due to which the sun shines directly on it but the tv's display is not at all affected. Excellent picture quality and motion flow.

2. Samsung 46D6600 55k

The next best thing. Sleek looks and awesome picture quality. Not as good as 8000 for obvious reasons, but a great buy.

3. Samsung 46D6000 53k

Picture quality as good as 6600, but it does no have in built wi-fi nor the looks of 6600. But the price difference in india between this and 6600 is a lot to settle for this tv. Used for gaming, and the smooth motion flow still amazes me.

4. Samsung 40C 6 series 45k

The only tv without 3d capabilities. Picture quality is good not too great. This one has been discontinued.

5. Panasonic Plasma 42'' 27k

Have hardly used it.

Have not included 3D capabilities since i haven't used them.

I had concluded after a long search that samsung is the best when it comes to led's.
If you're looking for good picture quality, go for samsung.

But if you dig 3D(sigh :p), go for lg.

I feel 3D is a matter of preference. Some people love 3D. They just don't stick to 3D animated movies, but also go ahead and buy the amazing IMAX 3D documentaries. 3D content is there. But as you mentioned it's not available in India. We have to get it from US where it's cheaper too.

Not everyone gets a headache, I'm sure. It definitely differs from person to person on how much their eyes can sustain and how long it can sustain.

3D effects are not over-rated. There are some good 3D discs which give good depth and fantastic pop-out effects.

Don't want to comment on the "silly" 3d glasses. We don't have to worry about who is watching us when we are watching 3d. :) Of course in the future we may get 3D contact lens :)

So, I would say that if a person loves 3D and their eyes don't get strained while watching 3D, they can/should go for it. Lots of exciting 3d fare coming in the future. Those who are not interested, can give it a skip. It will be an expensive non-usable add-on for them.

P.S. Watch out for Hobbit in theatres this Dec. 3D with 48 fps! :)

Impressive lineup of models I must say! Is it used for commercial purpose or at home? Where did u pick these from? I am interested in 46D6600...

The headache part is not due to a person's eyes' ability to 'sustain.'
The basic reason why we see 3D is because two images are simultaneously displayed on the screen and the glasses makes each eye see a different image. Since we see only one image at a time, our brain is forced to combine these two images giving the 3D effect. Basically our brain has to work overtime so that we see in 3D. So headache or no headache, 3D definitely is not very good for your eyesight. Not the current technology at least. That being said, some people do love 3D and buy its content from ebay. Its a matter of opinion, some people like it some don't. But the fact remains that 3D has not evolved enough to be used on a regular basis. But then again, no one can deny it that it is the future of vision technology.

Thanks. I have these at my home. Not for commercial use(although you are free to come at my home, watch a movie but that'll cost you a crate of beers:p).
And I picked this tv from bangkok. Had to pay 5k as duty on them at the airport as well. But it was equal to the VAT refund they give in Thailand so in the end it costed me pretty cheap.
