Hi guys,

My first post here. Need your help to decide between Philips 50PFL3950 for 48,000 and LG 49LH576T for 53,000
My observations after visiting the stores :

1. Pic quality is slightly better in philips
2. Sound quality is surprisingly good in lg
3. Connectivity- philips has 4 hdmi's while lg has wifi direct. Either way I can either connect a chrome cast in philips or connect directly through lg
4. Philips has 3 years warranty while lg has 1 year comprehensive plus 1 year for panel only
5. I've been using a philips for many years and have been very happy. But believe lg has a better standing in the market now

Which one do you guys suggest. Lg seems to be having more functionality and sound, but philips is giving much better warranty. What are your views on philips service as against lg's, specially considering the fact that philips might actually be a dying brand

Thanks in advance

Tarun,

Philips has always been a good brand. Just that they spend less on marketing and advertising unlike the Korean brands. I recently purchased a Philips 55PFL5059 LED TV after using an LG plasma 50PJ560 for 6 years. The plasma panel suddenly died and we would get no display. After 4 months of having it as a show piece, got this new 55 inch Philips TV in the middle of August. Got the TV for 60k which I thought was a very good price.

I did compare picture quality between the Philips and Samsung/LG 48/49 inch TVs and Philips was on par if not better than the other 2. I feel picture quality should be top priority when choosing a TV. For sound, I have my Denon AVR 2113 so even though the TV produces only 10W sound per side, I did not bother much. Your Philips seems to be a much higher model in the range. The 3 year warranty and better picture quality can't be ignored. I got a 3 yr warranty for my Philips too.

I'd say, go for the Philips for just these 2 factors -- better picture quality and the 3 yr warranty. Hope this helps!

Thanks vsg. I did actually buy the philips from kohinoor santacruz last week. But now I'm into a another battle :)
The television that was delivered had normal tape on the bottom of the box. The TV itself was very dirty and had scratches on the back side. I complained to kohinoor and the same was replaced. Now the new piece also that has come doesn't have the philips tape on the bottom of the box. Even though the scratches are much less on the tv. It would be installed today so would check usage etc.
If you can recollect, can you tell me if your TV box had philips tape or not (maybe that's normal for philips to not have it). And what is the way for checking the usage on philips and how much should it be for a new tv

Hey Tarun,

Sorry to know about the issue with your Philips TV. I am sure the new one would be ok. Since you mentioned about the Philips tape on the box, I went to check this just now, and yes. Indeed my box did come with the Philips tape on the top and bottom, and the installer cut through it to open and install the TV on my hifi cabinet.

So, if your Philips TV box did not have the Philips branded tape on it for sealing, then it is indeed an issue. Take it up if the TV is defective and if possible get it replaced, or just return to the place of purchase and get a refund, so that you can buy elsewhere.

Do not worry. Such things don't just happen with Philips. People have had far worse problems with new TV purchases even with other brands.

As for your other question, no I have no idea how to check the usage in a Philips TV. I presume the technicians only would have a special service remote, through which they would be able to check usage and many other advanced functions, which would not be available in a consumer remote.

Will try searching for info on this online anyhow and post back if I get anything worthwhile sharing.
