UPDATE: Netflix Geo-Location and VPN/Proxy Detection
We are aware that Netflix has enabled enhanced geo-locaiton and VPN/proxy detection for a small number of their customers. We expect them to slowly roll these changes out to all of their customers over the next few weeks.
We have already taken steps to ensure that our most popular Netflix regions (US, UK, IE, CA, MX, AU) will be unaffected by these changes. We're working on updating all our regions over the coming days to ensure these are also unaffected.
If you are accessing Netflix and receive a "proxy" or "unblocker" error when streaming, please use one of the regions mentioned above, you can change regions here. Please contact support using the form below if you have continued problems or if your desired region is not working.

How can we find which region we are connected to??
Coz if remove DNS entries from router and use smartDNS proxy, I can still connect to Netflix but can't find "Person of interest" TV show but if I enter DNS servers in router & connect to Netflix, I can find it easily. But still it shows season 4 only.. How can I find previous seasons??
My region is set to USA east 1 in smartDNS account..
So how can I confirm which region of Netflix I m watching Indian or USA???

If you use DNS and if you have selected USA east 1, then your Netflix region is USA. If you remove the DNS you will be back to India region.
To swith to India region, you don't have to remove the DNS. Just select India region from SmartDNSProxy drop down and restart Netflix.
There are few shows which are available in USA are not available in India. Hence, you are not able to search person of interest in one of these regions.

My VPN service is working fine, at the moment.
However, if they really want Netflix can block it... at least on the DNS level. Google has done it successfully.
DNS will not impact speed. Using a proxy or VPN will impact speed, depending on the server.
I got blocked today! Using Getflix. I had set to India region, accessing from India only.

You can actually do it for cheap with a Raspberry Pi. Costs $35, and a little bit of time reading the guides.
I've setup a VPN server, and a personal cloud (to access my NAS outside of home).

Hosting your own VPN server for media services like Netflix, HULU is something I would not recommend, simply because the upload bandwidth of home broadband is usually not as high as the download. So you will be heavily bottlenecked by that. (if for some reason your up/dn speed is in 1:1 ratio and assuming you have min 5mbps for the same, by all means, your own VPN should suffice for media streaming.) Getting a unique IP address from online good VPN service is what one should try. However if you want to just use your internal resources and do not want to port fw every service you want to access from internet, VPN is the best solution and you can make it secure as well. Else using DDNS services like no-ip or DynDNS also you can achieve the same result without VPN.
I BTW am using both DDNS and a VPN server for my needs but then I have like gazllions services running that I enjoy accessing from Internet ...

I have reached a stage in life where it makes more sense to optimize what I have and enjoy the fruits of my labour. No more fooling around and no more experimentation. If it works, great. If it doesn't, I just scream at the service provider or product dealer and make their life miserable till my stuff gets done.
The only experimentation I am now going to do is setting up a DLNA network and slowly build a whole home audio using Chrome Audio, Fon, or whatever else.

Working for me. I'm using VPN and not DNS services.
I'm guessing what they did is identify a particular VPN service and blacklisted/blocked their IP range. VPNs will get around by getting new IPs and new servers.
Have to see how it plays out, but right now I've checked and I'm fine with both US and UK.
