Hi
Request your expertises. I would like to upgrade to a new amp
Choices are
1/. Denon 1510AE
2/. Nad 356BEE
3/. Marantz 7004

My current setup - Technics SUV7 80W 8 ohms & PACE2050 50W 8 ohms connected to Pace Floor standing speakers (Each Cabinet has two 12 '' drivers 50/60W (not sure which make maybe Philips) & two Peerless Dome tweeters 80W). Two way Speaker

The PACE Amp by itself is not able to drive these speakers. I have to use an Eq to boost the level via the Pace. Technics no complains but the Amp died recently.

My worry is that are the new amps rated at somewhere around 80w at 8 ohms would drive my Pace Floor standing speakers. I have auditioned few of the above but on bookshelves & Towers none on 12 drivers.:p

I hope you guys could help me deicide :o
Thanks - Clayton

Hi,

All of them are competent choices, you can add CA 650A and Yamaha A-S700 to the list.

The A-S700 is quite a powerhouse and should be able to drive you setup, I had recently auditioned it with WD loudspeakers, and it was doing it effortlessly.

The forum fa's are NAD and Marantz and your fav should be the one which sounds like music to your ears...:)

Hey,

Seems both of us are sailing in the same boat:)

I too am hunting for a good amp to drive my 3-way speakers which have 12" woofers (if I may call them that)

Have auditioned till date

NAD 356BEE with PSB bookshelf and towers
Denon 510 with KEF Q300 bookshelf
Denon 710 with Paradigm Monitor 7 towers
Marantz 7003 with Energy RC-10 bookshelf

An audition for Marantz PM7004 is planned today @Cinebells - Bandra
They were kind enough to offer me to carry my speakers to their shop and audition the amp with them .Although I haven't ruled that out completely
will first like to hear how the amp sounds on the Jamo speakers they have

I am more inclined towards the Marantz since the looks will complement the CD6003 which I have bought. Guess it will be more a matter of heart than mind when I audition it.
I also have in mind a future upgrade to MM7025 (stereo power amp) and use 7004 as a preamp

Cheers!

Hi Clayton,
Your Technics is quite a classic. Why not get it repaired? Try Sanjay Raut, AVC Inc at Shivaji Park, 9820008982. He should be able to fix your amp. If after trying Sanjay you still feel the urge for a new amp, then do be my guest:)

That's really good response from you guys to fix my Amp. I think I will give it shot to fix it once again. Pic of the Technics Amp is on Showcase Your Turntable on page 7 :)

What is your take on the Denon 1510AE.
Its seems this is the only mosfet Amp compared to Nad 356BEE, Marantz 7004 & Yamaha AS700 or Camridge 650A.

If I have to settle for a new Amp I would go for the Denon 1510AE. When I auditioned the Denon 710AE 50W 8ohms I was very impressed. The Denon 1510AE is most expensive compared to the others. I hope its the right choice if I have to buy a new Amp.
Thanks

Hi Mayhem,

Pls demo the Denon Amp before going for it. It may not have the ideal characteristics for playing Hard Rock/Metal(Your music) & hence just be double sure as its an expy amp! PS: Have not heard it - have heard the 710AE & did not like it.

Take your time & demo as much as possible before buying any of those amps.

Have you auditioned all others? It will be unfair to reject others without giving them an audition

I have a friend Neelesh who is also looking for a new Amp and togerther we have checked the Nad is warm & nice. Excellent for vocals fab for Jazz. But rock didnt sound good. The Yamaha is balanced well. Neelesh has checked the Cambridge and found it bright. He is settling for the Marantz 7004 for the looks and he likes the sound also.

I liked the Denon 710 AE because it was punchy with the tonecontrol bypassed. Ever Instrument was equal & live. But again its unfair comparison as the speakers were different in every location for the Amps. Neelesh can brief you guys about what speakers etc.

I listen to Jazz, Pop, Hindi, little bit of western classical, Trans (Disco Lps), HipHop and LOTSS of Metal & I feel the Denon 1510 with the Mosfet probally will handle all kind of Music specially Metal.:yahoo:

I just wanted to know did anyone audition or has a Denon 1510

Oh you heard the 710AE & did not like it. Could be the speakers?? Difficult to know if amp is performing or the speakers. Well I didn't test Metal on the 710AE. Sometime I am a bit hesitant to play Metal while testing might drive the shopkeeper crazy. Anyway thanks for your feedback

Brother, if you do not play METAL how will you know whether the gear is able to play it well or not, I always carry my assorted collection with me, 90% of it being Hard Rock/Metal & trust me no shopkeeper/sales exec will grudge you listening to your CD's. If they do then you know then & there that you will Never Ever visit/do any purchase from that shop/dealer:cool:

I heard the 710AE paired with a wide variety of speakers (the dealer had a lot of choice) & it did not impress me with any of the speakers paired with it - all the time listening to you know what;)
