All friends,

I look for a BD player which I propose to play the Blue ray disks and DVDs

Can some one suggest one basic player.

I also think of getting the same from Singapore through a friend
who shall be visiting singapore soon. Are the prices less in sigpaore compared to India. If so what are the models that I would consider ?

Thanks in advance.

Singapore is cheaper. I bought my LG BD370 in Mustafa's for S$350 before GST refund. Cheaper players like Sony BD360 and Samsung 1600 are also available. Time to time you'll get a deal on bluray players in Mustafa. Also check Sim Lim Square shops where you'll get a better deal - but you need to bargain. Keep in mind that Singapore players are locked to Bluray region 1 (can play discs from Singapore/US/unlocked). Normally the stores will unlock the DVD regions and make it region free (only for DVDs).

Rajat, There is a region hack available for BDP 3600. I am not sure that forum rules will permit posting the link here. PM me.

There is nothing illegal about region code hacks. They will end your warranty of the product but nothing beyond that. Feel free to post the link to the same.

You can modify any piece of hardware that you legally purchase and change the internals, it will void the product warranty but you are fine legally.

Only if you benefit commercially because of the change then there could be legal implications.

Sony Blu-ray player BDP S370 has been launched in India and is priced Rs.9990. I have been using this player since May 28, 2010 and the performance has been very good. This model has a LAN port and is wireless ready with USB wireless adaptor, separately available from Sony. It has two USB ports, one of which is used for downloading BD-Live content. The player reads blu-ray discs marked region 'C' and 'ALL'.

Dune BD Prime 3.0 is one of the best, its better to buy a product where you get warranty than to have a blu ray player bought from singapore where its not possible to get warranty or the option is BDP-83SE Blu-ray Player is the best buy contact SWISH @ +919845539806.

Swish,

Can you PM me the current price of a Dune BD 3.0 in India? I guess it makes perfect sense to buy a BDP, that also serves as an MP.

Dune BD 3.0 ranges from 32 k to 35k here ....For the same price you can get a PS3 which plays blu-rays/Games and a media player.... Give it a thought

Oops! Exactly .... sometimes we get carried away by flashy ads in mags and forget what can be achieved in much easier ways ...

BTW, hope you remember my mentioning to you about the Xbox 360 that I sold an year ago :( ... wonder if it was a very good decision, but not too sure if it had a sata HDD slot and network player (internet radio) capabilities?

Wonder if the next gen gaming boxes come with internet radio streaming capabilities :p
