New Samsung C6300 series 55" TV

Hi All

I got a new 55" Samsung TV from the US. Having tough time getting it work right with my normal cable operator cable. It only gives a black and white image and no sound at all.

What could be the problem? Is it the cable or the signal type?

It's probably the signal type. US TVs are NTSC only, whereas the TV standard in India is PAL. This is one more reason for the world to move to High Definition, so that we are finally rid of this issue.

These days TV's (CRT, LCD, Plasma) have the capacity to accept signals in both PAL and NTSC formats. I don't think that's the problem.

Not the tvs sold in USA,unlike most asian countries that have multi color system and auto voltage 110 to 240v,the US models only come in NTSC,ATSC and 110v only.

^They are right. Ask your cableguy if he has a Digital Box of some kind. Worked for me.

In most probably, as Sanjay said, this could be a PAL/NTSC issue though you should be getting any image. You can ask the cable operator to give you a STB that support NTSC or get a PAL=>NTSC converter.

it is the signal type... u have a TV tuner compatible for US band and freq.

try with a DTH set top box.. since it will plug through AV in, you should have option to select PAL/NTSC.

I had brought back a TV from the US.
US TVs are NTSC only. There is no option to select PAL/NTSC.

I have TataSky DTH. There is no option to set the output to NTSC.

Basically, bringing a TV back from US is not a good idea. I learnt the hard way.

2) Custom issues
