Can't do much if the HT receiver does not not co axial or optical in. May be you need to change to appropriate HT receiver.

one option is to send digital signals (optical or co axial) to a decent DAC (digital to analogue converter) and analogue signals from DAC can be fed into your HT receiver's aux in for further amplification. However, all the DACs I know work for 2 channels only (stereo only). I am not sure if such a DAC is of any help to you if you are into games where surround sound is important. what kind of inputs does your sony home theatre have? Is is 5.1 analogue input or is it just auxiallary in via a 3.5mm mini jack?

Well you should have checked the specs of your HT before buying. Nevertheless there are few options though but mere workarounds (stereo)

1. Get a cable like this, http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Analog-Component-Sony-2-3/dp/B0032Z4OMA and connect front left + right to your HT audio in, at least you will get stereo input which you can convert using prologic setting to 5.1 (pseudo). Not sure if this cable is avaiolable locally or can think of international shipment as well. Remember to set ps3 output to stereo downmix.

2. Get this HDMI to YPbPr Vedio +R/L Audio Converter HDMI to 5RCA | eBay along with an HDMI splitter Video/Audio Splitter - HDMI M to HDMI F X 2 | eBay and send one HDMI out from your PS3 via splitter to TV and another to this converter. Then the output from converter to your HT audio in.

3. other optiosn are pricey, buying a DAC which has optical inputs (stereo).

Beware of cables like these 1080p Gold HDMI to 5 RCA Audio Video AV Component Cable | eBay they do not work.

thanks all for ur replies....i hav heard that there is a DSP available by sony which can be connecte to this HT n the same has digital in ???

you got that from the shop where you bought your ht from? Wonder if that will be above stereo.

I don't think there us any way for you to go apart from getting a dac and pushing 2 channel rca connection to the ht system.then at least you can use pro logic dsp in your ht system to convert the signal to virtual surround. Fiio d3 is a decent and cheap dac that you can buy. Its available at bajaao.com for 3000 rs.

One always need to purchase only after reading full features wisely. One shouldn't go only after name of company.Sony has digital input in higher HTib models.Philips Htib are little cheaper. Many of budget Htib dont provide digital in which some one should always consider.

@kyahaiyaar: if possible, try to exchange your existing HTiB with higher model from Sony that has Optical/coax in. At least ask your dealer about this option. He should agree if your system is fairly new. You will lose some money but not as much as buying new HTiB and will get peace of mind. DAC is an option but you won't gain much if you use lower end DAC which is likely to be as good as on board DAC in PS3/Xbox. A good DAC willcost something above 10k . Exchange may be a better option.

I exchanged my Sony DAV-DZ150 with the Norge FM tuner by paying an additional Rs. 500.
And I am very happy with the exchange :-)

Apologies for introducing unnecessary noise in your thread, but the word exchange reminded me of my exchange of the Sony HTIB.
Ok, I will explain: There was no dealer involved, one of my friend had more than one tuner, and the Sony HTIB had been lying unused with me as the lack of connectivity options had rendered it useless, I wanted to hear the Dolby 5.1 from TS-HD and it did not have any digital input, I purchased an Onkyo, and exchanged the Sony with my friend who gifted it to somebody.

ok..ok now i got it...i now wanted to buy ONKYO...but its just few months that i got this HTiB, i didnt know about ONKYO before i joined this forum..a friend of mine told me that this the best at 17k so i got it ...i so wanted to watch 5.1 movies from my xbox or by any other way but....

Now I am confused. If your purpose is simply watching movies in 5.1, why aren't you using the built in DVD player of your HTiB? Why do you insist on using xbox/PS3 as source? I am sure your HTiB will have the necessray decoder built if you play dvd in the built in DVD player.

even xbox doesn't play all mkv files through the windows media centre properly. I have tried that repeatedly, and found it to be too cumbersome and unreliable. your best always was and will be getting a media player for playing downloaded movies, they are anyway much cheaper than the xbox 360. If u are not using the xbox 360 for gaming you should sell it promptly and invest in a media player, there are many many options...all you have to do is come up with your budget and people here will help you out with choices..

to put things into perspective, they start from as low as 5k (asus o!play mini) and go up to 12-13k for built in HDD models, there are many where you can simply download the movies directly instead of putting them in the hard drive.

yeah me a gamer too...i understand..your post mentioned playing movies so i was confused...anyway there is nothing much you can do, apart from if your TV supports ARC through HDMI, I checked out the specs of ur HT, it supports ARC, so if your TV supports ARC, then u are good to go, connect the XBOX through HDMI (if new slim version), and since ur HT will connected to the the tv through HDMI, it can be used for the return channel..

alternatively, do nothing, simply connect xbox to the tv, taken the line out of the TV and connect it to the HT system RCA line in and use pro logic...its better than nothing, and definitely better than your tv sound..
