No Digital or optical out :(

Ok. Checked specs of your HTiB. It does not have 5.1 analogue in. So using 5.1 analogue out of a media player is out of question Let me ask one stupid question (because I have never ever downloaded a movie from net or played it from pen drive). Can you burn your .mkv file on a disc as DVD video and then play it through the DVD player of your HTiB?? There must be some converters available. Or burn the .mkv file as blu ray using blu ray burner (but your sony HTib should be capable of playing blu ray which I doubt)

no i havent burned any dvd coz it has usb so i always use pen drive only...now m using coverterxtodvd lets c wats the result...

yeah me a gamer too...i understand..your post mentioned playing movies so i was confused...anyway there is nothing much you can do, apart from if your TV supports ARC through HDMI, I checked out the specs of ur HT, it supports ARC, so if your TV supports ARC, then u are good to go, connect the XBOX through HDMI (if new slim version), and since ur HT will connected to the the tv through HDMI, it can be used for the return channel..

alternatively, do nothing, simply connect xbox to the tv, taken the line out of the TV and connect it to the HT system RCA line in and use pro logic...its better than nothing, and definitely better than your tv sound..

yes my ht supports ARC but how to chk on my tv has ARC or not if it also has it will be awesome...but to which option should i.keep my dvd to get audio from Arc tv....i hav 32" lloyd lcd :(

whats the model no?

Get a cheap DD and DTS decoder from ebay or better still a DIY kit based on the cirrus logic chip. You can connect an optical / coxial digital in and connect the 5.1 channel out to your home theatre.

Will cost around 4K.

Audiodoc, his HTiB does not have 5.1 analogue in. So a plain decoder may not be of help. Either he will have to play DVD or use Prologic for virtual surround.

its has analogue 5.1 ...how would i connect my HTiB with it???

Looked at the TV model, pretty sure it won't have ARC as its a pretty basic model. So simply take a stereo to 2 RCA wire and connect it to the stereo out of your TV. Then use the HT DSP to convert it to 5.1 by using Dolby Pro Logic.

Also sorry to disappoint you, but I am pretty sure XBOX 360 does not support 5.1 sound from any H.264 container, I had done enough research on it before buying my xtreamer 2 years ago. whether you play it after converting or transcode it. Also, if you are downloading HD h.264 content and converting them to DVD you are doing yourself a disservice as the DVD format (.vob) does not support HD content. So what you are essentially doing is converting HD content of the mkv files to SD DVD format. So you will be better off simply mux them in a mp4 container which the XBOX 360 supports..that way you will retain the original HD content

could tell me decent converter which can convert .mkv to a mpeg4 without any fuss and that b playable directly on my HTiB using pen drive...without using xbox

Super converter converts most audio and video formats. The fuss is about the pc that should do the conversion. A quad core pc with lots of ram is essential otherwise it will take ages.

i hav that but i wanted to know to settings do i need to set bcoz its too clumsy and has tons of option ...plz tell the setting according to my HTiB that would help converting every mkv to desired format...

Instead of all the headache for converting it will be better to buy a hd media player like asus Oplay mini. It will solve the problem of playing any file while a Chinese surround decoder will decode the DTS and DD sound tracks on the mkv files.

i used to use GOTsent, and it was simple and painless, actually you don't need to convert the video at all...its the mkv container that is not supported by the 360, but the underlying h.264 video stream is. since the 360 also does not support 5.1 dts, u need 2 channel aac, even that is not a problem as most downloaded mkvs that I have seen have 2 separate streams of 5.1 channel and 2 channel audio anyway. So all the software does is extracts the streams from the mkv container and put them in a new container...no its not as easy as just unzipping and zipping a file, but you won't need a very fast computer for this...and there is no actual video decoding taking place...to learn what you need and how to do this hit the link below; the number of softwares needed may overwhelm u, but once you set it up, u r set and good to go, incrementally it is very painless. Also, I do not not know why u r using the media centre as the 360 reads and plays video files from the pen drive directly. the only pain there is it only supports FAT32 formatted drives; so the >4 GB files need to be split into multiple files of 4 GB or less as FAT 32 will not support a file size more than that, again this can be achieved quite painlessly by GOTsent and the associated tools...read on in the link for the complete tutorial..

dude...i want to convert mkv and want to play directly on my sony htib...now reply

Well I guess must be through the htib usb...again it wont support anything other than sd (non h.264) and nothing more thsn simple 2 channel audio...i don't know why would you do it when you have an xbox...you can simply mux the file with gotsent and play on the xbox..it will be faster and you get to see hd content.

but if you must convert for some unknown reason and play it on the htib...use super converter like audiodoc says...but as he mentioned, conversion is a long and painful process, and completely dependant on the configuration on your computer as video conversion is a very processor intensive job.

Again..i see no logic in going through this route
