Looks like its raining budget 3D projectors lately...BenQ launched the very well reviewed W1070 @$999... Now its time for Acer to do one better & launch a 1080p 3D projector with monster lumen count(normal 3000Lms,Eco 2400Lms) for just $799:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:... It even has a extreme eco mode that can extent the lamp life to upto 7000 hours:eek:...Whats more , Amazon is ready to ship it to India for around Rs60k delivered... The initial user reviews coming out of germany are very positive although we do have to w8 for the US launch & review on sites like projectorreviews.com to get a bit more idea about the PQ...All in all great news for ppl who want to invest in a budget 3D projector...

Looks really good. Also has 2d-3d conversion + proper 3d rather than only nividia 3d :yahoo:...hopefully reviews are good....

Nice to hear this news. People looking for budget projectors can rejoice. The only place we will get beaten up in India is the support.

otherwise it is rocking and is smacker of a deal. :licklips:

Guys

What about Epson TW550 with a mrp of Rs.55000-720p, 3d ready, 3000lumens & 5000:1 contrast ratio !!!

How would this compare against this Acer?

Err u said it urself in ur post, the tw550 is 720p while the acer is 1080p... There will be a lot of diff in image quality... But the issue is with acer u won't get warranty where as epson has 2 yr warranty I believe... Plus tw550 will be 45-47k after discount & the acer will come to 55-60k after shipping & customs... It's a personal call one has to make himself...

Rajdeep sir i m planning to buy this epson tw550 ..

Does 1080p will make huge difference over 720p on 110 inch screen from a viewing distance of 13 ft or 4 Mt (could you suggest me a optimum screen size for this viewing distance ?????)

i got quote of 70k plus 12.5 % VAT on Mitshu HC4000, 72k plus 12.5 % vat for Viewsonic pro8200 from Varay image ,Mumbai.

this will be my first projector. And i m not a Videophile. i just want projector to watch a HD movie on weekends on big screen with family and friends(planning to buy a bluray & Media player also) and a occasional India Cricket Match.

i own a yamaha HTiB 5.1 set up. its 4 yr old set up but serves me well. so no upgradation on that front, might look at it in near future.

ur guidance will be really Appreciated.:)

@dearone,
1st of all I would like to ask weather u have a dedicated HT room or not... If u have a dedicated HT room u get a lot more options... If u are gonna use in a Living room then ur options do get limited a bit... Ok now u will have to decide weather 3D is imp to u are not... It wasnt imp to me so I choose a 2D projector... Among the options available right now if u want best 2D image & u can control the ambient light(ie dedicated HT room) then Mits HC4000 is an excellent choice... Its got amazing PQ & its not that costly too... Only prob is its lacks a bit in brightness... But if u have a HT room it has more than enough brightness... Anyway now back to ur 1080p vs 720p dilemma... Frankly speaking uptil now the 720p vs 1080p debate was mostly based on budget... The prob in this case is the diff in pricing of these projectors is probably 10-15k(assuming the TW550 costs about 45k)... This diff seems too small a price to pay considering the PQ boost you will get by jumping to 1080p... This is not counting the piece of mind that u will feel coz u have bought the best viable resolution projector available today... I am not saying 720p will not look fantastic... Check out the following videos my bro shot on a visit to the home of another FM(Santy)... This was my bro's 1st exp with a projector which you can make out by the amazement in his voice(you can hear him saying"Kya lag raha hai yaar... Movie dekhne ko kya mazza aayega eshpe":D )... Now the iPhone camera does not do justice to the actual quality u will exp... Mind u this was a 720p HD66 which is much less brighter than the TW550 plus it was in night mode setting even though we were watching this at 2:00 in the afternoon with sunlight peaking from the curtains... The best thing I liked about this setup was the amazing DIY laminate screen 98 inch screen Santy had built with LED backlighing :D ... Anyway my point is even if u choose the TW550 which is 720p u will be more than happy & all ur friends amazed... I recently watched a day of the Ind vs Aus test match on a sunday with many our family friends on a 180inch screen & to say they were amazed would be a huge understatement... All in all it is safe to say that my projector has been booked for all future imp T20 matches & cup finals :D ... BTW is ur budget only till 80k or can it be extended to say 1-1.3lacs???There are 2 amazing projectors from Epson at the 95k-1 lac(TW6100) & the 1.25-1.3lac(TW8100) price point...But as u are asking about the TW550 so I am guessing ur budget is actually 50-60k... Anyway if u want the piece of mind of the warranty then go for the TW550 & if u want a 1080p projector & are ready to import then go for the Acer H6510... But in either case I would recommend u w8 for a month before u buy as by then we will have a few reviews to find out the PQ performance of the H6510... The 2D model og this projector H6500 had very good reviews & with the launch of this projector I am expecting the H6500 to be available at even a lower price point if anyone wants a 2D projector...

thank you rajadeep for this informative thread..thank you.

what i think about 720p vs 1080p is it really does not matter if the viewing distance is more than 12 feet.
from 12 feet it is completely unnoticable
difference is noticable..yes..but only from 6 ft or max 8ft....
also getting a 1080p machine is justified if the feed is 1080p always....

@Rajdeep Sir
thank you sir for your post.
prob is i m very conservative with my spending:D

Thing is i m going to use this in my living room but i can control light and make it pretty dark in daytime too(thanks to my builder:ohyeah:)
Secondly i am not interested in 3D at this point nor am i into gaming .
My only point of contention is Will 1080p will justify the premium i pay over 720p after being watched at distance of 4 Mt.
Budget is not a prob actually i can wait 2 mnth to strect it to 1.3 L for TW8100 also. Before Epson TW550 launch i made my mind to buy HC4000 but then Epson ne Tang Ada Di:D.I m getting 720p LCD projector with 3D capabilites( not available in HC4000) and i m getting it almost for 30k less the price of HC4000.( 3D not needed but milta hai to kyun chore:ohyeah:)

So the Question remains does 1080p justify the premium of 30K INR for HC4000 or 80k INR for TW8100 over the 48-52 k (Approx) INR for Epson TW550 when watching distance is 4 Mt:sad:

Hey there,
Im also looking for the TW550. It makes logical sense after seeing he price & features. How much of 1080 content is there tell me? PLus the difference is minimal. I think the 550 is a no brainer- its made for the typical Indian like you & me who wants some value along with quality.

Do let me know what kind of price deals your'e getting for the 550 in your location...
cheers

amazon is selling Acer H5360 3D-DLP Projector $478.88.we receive 32k by borderlinex. this is 18k cheap from epson tw550. my local dealer has quoted me epson tw550 50k and tw480 43k .acer h5360 have good reviews on internet .

The difference between 1080p and 720p is not minimal. It may not be very big depending on distance, but there is quite a bit of difference. But there is another aspect as well about 3 LCD. All the 3 chip projectors due have some convergence issues. But at 720p, the pixels are quite bigger. If there is convergence, that also becomes big in millimeters. That will give you blurry picture. At 1080p, pixel size is small so whatever the convergence is - that is also small in millimeters. Moreover, 1080p has more pixels and gives you overall more sharper, contrasty and 3d like picture.

If you still want 720p, I would suggest sticking with DLP. Atleast you won't have to worry about convergence.

manoj sir

one question

regarding the convergence issue....is it mandatory to happen for all 3 lcd pjs..

or is it a manufacturing defect..in some pieces...

or is it an issue which gets less as the price goes high...

thanks

Prosenjit,

its flattering to be called sir, but please do not call me so. I am not that great, and really not that old. ;)

About 3 chip projectors - these do have 3 different chips, one each for Red, Green and Blue. Light passes through each of these and merges after words. Now, you can imagine, there is no way to line up these three chips perfectly with each other. So yes, all 3 chip projectors will have some convergence issues, there is no escaping that. Some high end projectors will have better quality control and hence less convergence. Those will have imperceptible convergence, but it will be there. Ultimately it boils down to cost. At low end, cos cannot handpick chips and test every projector for convergence. So, you can get a good unit or bad unit. Some users have gone through multiple units to get a good one.

As for Epson TW6000/6100/8000/8100/9000/9100, these do have a pixel alignment menus. It allows users pixel level adjustments to line up these panels.

Like Manoj "sir" said, yes it's bound to happen with all 3lcd PJs and some pJs will have it more than others. But once you manually adjust the panels, the difference is too little to notice unless you're standing right next to the screen, especially with the 1080p projectors.

With a Dlp, you'll never face this issue but then Dlp has its own fair share of issues (limited lens shift and zoom) and not perfect either.

Thanks Manoj (Im ignoring the sir :) )for all the info. So would you suggest the TW550 in a 18/12 feet room where the viewing distance would be say 10feet & screen size 120inch?

Thanks

glad you dropped the "sir"

At $800, I would not go for a 720p projector. I would go for 1080p projector like Acer or Benq.
