I purchased this OLED in Feb 2023. Yesterday it started showing these black lines around the edges. LG technician visited, opened up the TV and took some pics of the screen. He told me it could be a water issue and may not be honoured under warranty. Waiting for follow up from LG

Hello, can you please provide some details on this water issue is this more related to moisture in the air near your location.
as i am in the process of shortlisting OLEDS from LG.

It's really shocking. A well-known brand TV which is just 2 year old going wrong means how do we select a TV honestly.

And the technician blaming water issue as the cause which means does this mean that the TV was kept in an open room where rain water may have entered into the TV or someone poured water into the TV?

It is always better to opt for some local brand TV with low cost which even if something goes wrong we will lose only small amount of money than lakhs of rupees spent on high branded TVs.

It could be a manufacturing defect or moisture issue. Technician told me as soon as he gets follow up from LG about this issue he will inform me. I will update

The display is going to give up in 6 months max. Better claim warranty and get it replaced.

Is the TV near or below an A/C ? Sometimes, early morning coolness could cause moisture to build up. Could someone ( a Child?) have accidentally splashed water on the st ?

Has anyone faced similar issue and got their OLED replaced under warranty ? As there wasn't any contact of water on my TV, this looks like a screen defect. I saw some similar posts on reddit and they were able to get their unit replaced under warranty. I am waiting for response from LG.

If it is under warranty, you will get a replacement. Mine was gone after spotting the dead pixels in 4 months. So act quickly. Mine was out of warranty hence i had to buy a new one.

I bought LG CX in 2020 with 1+1 year offer and AMC for 3 years/ So total 5 years. Noticed some dead pixels in Jan 2024, raised a complaint, technician visited, checked and I got a replacement new panel all within 7 days.

I got my panel replaced today by LG. The remaining warranty will be applicable on the new panel as per LG. I enquired about the extended warranty and the technician quoted 30,000 for two year AMC. Is it worth taking?

I'd say buy cheap mitv. Don't pay more than 1k per inch. Replace when it goes bad. Buy 3 years comprehensive warranty etc but don't spend lacs on 55-65 inch tvs. They are commodity

Limited lifespan is a sad reality of current day TVs. Even laptops and iPhones last longer. It is very difficult to justify spending lacs for TV sets that will develop problems or become obsolete in 3 years. Gone are the days of CRT and Plasma which lasted and lasted.

Very True. I bough an LCD TV from Samsung in 2010 - it lasted 11+ years before it started degrading. We had a philips 21 inch CRT in 1999 that was still running in 2010 - but I changed as I wanted a larger screen. Nowadays we can only dream for such lifespans for TVs

Very true, today's tv's are just like disposable commodities after just a few years . Cannot expect much lifespan like the earlier ones and paying lakhs for it is difficult to justify.

100% agree. My Samsung (5 series) Full HD LCD TV which was purchased around 14/15 years back is still going strong. The only problem I had in July 2024 was one of the capacitors blown up, which caused some leakage inside the Board. A local known technician came and changed the Capacitor, cleaned the board which costed only Rs. 1500, and it's working fine so far.

CRT tvs were there in the market since 1934 and lcd tvs were available since early 80s. So I guess oleds will be more reliable after some 20 years.

I had LG B7 for 7 years until it fell down and broke. I had 2 screen replacements done in 2018 due to panel burn in. However the panel I got in 2018 went strong until 6 years without problems. I was well aware about the risks when I bought it back then. However now the new G Series panels have 5year warranty by default in the country I live now. That shows the maturity they are achieving over the period.

But I think people like us, who are enthusiastic about av gear than the general crowd, would get bored of the standard of the gear before it runs of its gas. At the end of 7 years, I didn’t feel any regret replacing the b7 with a new tv as to me it had already felt outdated. 55 inches is no longer a big tv nowadays. I went with 77 now, however after seeing the new ones, now I feel 77 is just an ok size. I think soon in 2 years 100+ will becomes standard !
