Hi,
I bought Onkyo HT-S9405 THX 5.1 from Kuwait. The price was 220KWD and the equivalent in Indian Rupees will be Rs. 41800/-. But when I inquired the price of Onkyo HT-S9300 THX in India, it was Rs. 90000/-. I have to bring the same as three parts inorder to avoid customs duty. But finally I have managed to bring the entire thing home.
I have not installed it as my house renovation is not yet completed. But I could not wait and hence wanted to give it a rough try. I connected my DELL laptop to the HT-R990 receiver through a HDMI cable. Watched the video on my laptop and the Audio on the HT.
One thing I noticed is that, I have to raise the volume upto 70% or otherwise it was not upto my satisfaction. To be frank, i did not try any other settings on the receiver. But plugged in and tried. Is this normal, or when I try to hook up a Blu ray player it would be fine? Kindly note I played the movies in KM player and my laptop volume was in the maximum level.
It would be great if someone can share their ideas in this regard.
Thanks.

Yes Nirmal, as you said I bought it from Xcite(Avenues Mall) only. I too had a confusion between 9300 and 9405. Finally decied to go with 9405, as I felt the A/V receiver had some extra features. Anyway I will hook it up, when I come home next month. Will sent you a PM in case of any doubt. Guide me please. Thanks.

Also Thanks prosenjit, for your valuable comments. It was a 8gb mkv bluray rip movie that I tried watching. It was a 5.1 ch dts sound movie. Could you suggest me if I should go for a Blu Ray disc player or a HD media player? I have lot of HD MKV movies with me in my External hard drive. Hope the sound out of a HD media player will also be great.Thanks.

Dear,

If you have more MKV files means buy some DAC or media player and connect or else see the audio setup in your laptop.... the settings may be for the lap speakers or stereo speaker setup change it 5.1 sound this may work
