This past weekend I hooked up my infrequently used oppo 83 to my main rig as a transport. I made small modifications to the accessories 1) by removing the stock feet of the player and replacing them with vibrapods 2) replaced the stock power cord with an Audio Art Power 1 se with furtech terminations (I know this cable costs as much as the player but I have a spare one not being used). Using a DH labs coax. connected to my DAC, the results were amazing. While I will not say that it equalled my past reference the Ayon Cd2s, it was good enough to be listened to for long listening sessions without any fatigue - which I have experienced in the past with low priced disc players. Sound was smooth, detailed with expansive soundstage. It sounded a little on the cooler side of neutral but not overtly so. It sounded detailed and resolved very well. I will say that it beat my older Rega Apollo used as a transport decisively. Consequently I am planning to order a 103 and use it it permanently in my audio setup and move the 83 back to my ht setup. I know the 105 will be better as a player ,but the advice, from users who have compred both is that strictly as a transport the 103 is probably the equal of the 105, but if one plans to use analog outputs then the 105 is superior.

Sid
