I don't think that would be safe for HE-400 & I won't recommend it.It also voids the warranty.

Oh, just to clarify I meant using the headphone out of the amp, how is that risky ?

^My comment was only meant for suggestions of running the headphone directly through speaker terminals. Hifiman would not provide warranty in case you damage your headphones in that fashion.

No problems running through the headphone out of an amp. Most current integrated/AVR amps have really bad headphone outs, so that is probably what you are experiencing.

There are no CTH boards available anywhere.

The complete kit which was made available recently by Joe Audio costs $450 + international shipping. I am not sure if even that is available nowadays.

That said I have one CTH board in my possession that I am currently in the process of populating so I'll soon have something to report you guys about.

They are both great amps so you should probably get started in any case!

CTH. I've been incredibly lazy and distracted off late to start the project. I have not decided if I should attempt the CTH first or the Buff 2 kit as I do not have a decent source yet. Oh well, let's see...

I pulled the trigger on the HE-400's last week. A friend of mine will bring it in June. I was looking at tube amps for it. I can buy the Aune T1 with 6922 tube for 7k which seems like a good deal to me. What do you guys think?

Also, can I buy NOS tubes for tube rolling somewhere in India?

Haven't read too many impressions of that combo, but if you've got the budget then perhaps get the Schiit Lyr ? I ordered my asgard 2 two days back, will post impressions when I get it !

I don't have much idea of the Aune but you should be able to find BEL E88CC tubes locally.
Otherwise you can check at BE3amplifiers.com, they had these tubes available when I enquired a couple of years back.

The CTH is a fantastic amp.. a mini stacker in many ways. A heck of an amp for how small it is. I should have kept one board myself

And forget Lebens.. they suck balls IMHO

Hi guys,

I just got to see this thread on all things planar!

I made an Electrostatic loudspeaker with very small dimensions. I was sure it would just push out the midrange and highs but glad it surprised me for all of 2 minutes before succumbing to some sort of discharge.
