Hi,

Looking to finalize on either the Panasonic 42V20 or the Sony EX720. Demoed the 46EX720 in the sony showroom. 2D performance was excellent. Took Avatar & Dark knight (Bluray) and the PQ was amazing. May review talk about clouding on the EX720. Found none on that TV.

Demoed the Panasonic V20 a couple of months ago, could only view normal tatasky channel. Picture looked more natural.

3D is not a priority. Looking for a TV for movies and games

I'm in chennai.

Price:

Panasonic 42V20 - Rs. 60,500 with 1 year warranty
Sony EX720 - approx 63k w/o b&w

Would like to know about the following about the panasonic V20

1) Any burn-in issues?
2) Floating blacks?

Did any of the forum member face this issue?

Many Thanks,
Shray

Plasma vs. LCD is an eternal argument. Ultimately, it boils down to what you find pleasing. Some people prefer the natural colours of plasma while some like the more vivid colours of LCD/LED.

The burn-in/etching issues of plasma panels is history. If you end up buying a plasma and this aspect still worries you, follow these simple guidelines for first 100 hours:

a) Reduce constrast to 40% or less
b) Always watch content in full screen mode, i.e., no black bars on top/bottom/left/right.
c) Do not watch the same channel for hours together

3D is not a priority. I'm planning to visit the panasonic store tomorrow to demo the v20 again. Will also ask when is the st30 arriving. Any idea on the pricing or how will it compare to the v20?

I was told its hitting the stores next week and priced around 78k .....

Reviews are available in flatpanelhd website. But reviews are for tech details and features rest trust your eyes.....

If 3d is not a priority , you shld check D6600 or D6000 from samsung too...

Thanks kittu. Are the samsung d6000 or d6600 models priced at around rs. 60k? I'm looking for a for 40 inch

And also would the samsung d6000 or d6600 compare to the v20 and price so 60k.

Thanks,
Shray

You should get D6000 around that price.

Anyday 42V20, I've this TV. After the arrival of 42V20, my TV viewing experience moved into a new dimension. I am not exaggerating anything here.

The v20 should be available under 60k with some amount of bargaining, anything around 57k-58k will be a good price. Also ensure that you are getting a boxed\sealed piece...

Its interesting to see that this particular model is still a flagship model with some serious competition when it comes to PQ. When i was looking for a TV in 2010, i was comparing the v20 against the ex710.

Agreed , but most V20s being sold now seem to be either defective or returned pieces by HFVIANS :D:lol:.......All good ones are kept by our members.... ;) so chances are rare that you would get a brand new piece..you may get it sealed thou ..

Isn't that a little bit too over exaggerated, i think you have put the OP in a continuous thought loop :D

BTW the same applies to any popular model by any brand , the buyer should be on alert, and do thorough research on how to avoid picking up a demo\used piece. We have enough information on HFV and other online resources on how to avoid that. As a consumer that's the last thing we should be doing, but here in India we have to be on our guard..

May be , but after my long day of TV hunt from Marathahalli to Jayanagar area at different stores , the only feedback I got was we have a display piece.....When I ask for new one most of them said "42 is discontinued by panny and 50 is available" . Including the brandshop in koramangla.

3-4 weeks back Croma in sony world signal has boxed pieces of V20 i happened to check with them outta curiosity, did u chk with them if not try there.

Given the lack of Full HD sources i would suggest the x30 as it will meet most of the day to day requirements and use the difference money for a home theater or a gaming console... 720p is enough for our day to day use on a 42 inch if you are seated at sufficient distance.

Both are different technology and sucessfull models.

If you need better picture and size suitable for your home choose V20.

V20 - Better Picure, can view with normal cable too, Not suitable small room.
EX720 - Better Picure, Power consume, 3D and suitable for 15*11 room.

Koramangala Panasonic shop guy said 42ST30D is kind of replacement for 42V20D - since it has exactly same specs, but with 3D as additional feature.

'ST30D is expected to hit the stores by end of this month and priced @ Rs. 78990.
