Hello everybody!!!

I am a newbie on this site and after going through some posts confirmed my decision to buy a panasonic 42X50D. Got it for 43/- at a Panasonic Brandshop. This one is for my parents and am waiting to get myself either a 42 ST or GT soon. Will let you know how this is once it is up and running.
Comments, advice welcome.

Thanks.

X50 is a brilliant entry level plasma......good choice!!! I believe GT50 has already been launched, ST50 and VT50 are expected.

Dear AnandMathew,

Welcome to the forum!!! Can you post your impression / view on your new buy Panny 42X50D. Because i'm plannin to get one here in chennai. Your review will be helpful for many of our forum members incl. me.

The set will be delivered only this weekend. Should have first impressions by early next week. Keen to see how it fares. Basically - what do we want - nice picture quality, decent looks and normal sound - so I guess this was the best choice, lets wait and see.

Sorry for the delay in writing about my first impressions. The 42X50 is indeed a great buy. Considering that what I wanted was just a normal TV for my parents, who just want to see the news, sports, serials etc and not too much into picture quality, black depth etc etc...

Nice picture though I have changed the picture settings to around 30 or less to be safe for the first 100 hrs or so. Overall picture is less brighter as can be expected from an entry level tv. Sound is also ok for day to day viewing.

Overall for the price and what one is ultimately buying the tv for it is a good buy I would say.

BUT ---- cant wait to get my hands on the 50 GT50 for my self!!!

Cheers....

1) When it comes to TV technology, plasma is the best and when it comes to plasma technology, panasonic is the best.
2) 42X50 is a great buy inspite of it being cheap for the following reasons.
  • The fact that it's HD ready and not full HD is a blessing in disguise because it consumes 33% lesser power than a full HD plasma TV. That single fact sort of negates the effect of plasma consuming more power than an LCD. 200W power rating of the 42X50D is very close to the power rating of an LCD TV.
  • When it comes to comfort for the eyes, reproduction of fast moving scenes as in the case of sports telecast, LCD/LED is no match to a Plasma, and this applies even if we compare the costly LEDs with an entry level Plasma
  • Plasma produces natural colours and is not illuminated by a backlit which allows hours of continous watching without putting a strain on the eyes. A plasma TV will look the best on evening and night. During the day, ensure that you have good curtains to enjoy the same quality.
  • Higher brightness level doesn't translate into better picture. In fact, it puts more strain on the eyes. So, lower the room lighting during day time, and watch the plasma TV with a low brightness level ( 40 to 50% ). That will give you the best viewing experience.
3) 42X50 is available for Rs. 38,000/- in Cochin. So, I would recommend that you do a good bargain before buying the TV. 42XT50 ( 3d ) is available for 43,000/-.
