Just talked to Panasonic brand shop, he said ST30 will be launching in next 2-3 days MRP of around 80k but he was willing to sell at 75k, will call me as soon as he gets it. He also mentioned VT30 is not coming, at least he has not been informed about the same.

get it cheaper - wait for a few days - here in US it started off at 1600 USD and dropped to 1100 USD in a matter of 45 days. You have the GT30 at around 1350 USD now launched at 1780 USD and VT 30 is not out yet....atleast at most retail stores

Unfortunately it does not work like that in India. Here all companies, specially some like Panasonic act like they are in a monopoly and charge obscenely hogh prices for the same products. As for the price falling with time, there is some drop in prices after a couple of months, but nothing even cloise to the kind of drops that happen in the US.

yes, see the 42v20 selling at the same price (or even higher) a year after launch

75K for what screen size?

I don't think there would be as big a price fall as that as in US, 75k is quoted for 42" screen size

What!
I thought it is for 50" (badly assumed )... then what about 50" GT and 50" VT..

Are you sure about it?

If 3D is not important, 42V20 for 59K is VFM here.

42" ST30 for 75k? super fail pricing, well done Panasonic.

Price in the us fall every month, Panasonic 50" GT25 was selling for about $900.

Both ST and GT series are inferior to the V or VT series.

Sorry to disagree, but I think the 42V20 at even 59K is still a rip off and certainly not value for money. For a few thousand extra you can get a 51" Samsung 51D550 which is also Full HD and in addition is also 3D. Panasonic plasma TVS in India are way over priced and are nto good value for money.

PLEASE HELP URGENTLY - BRIGHTNESS OF 42 ST30 IS LOW!!!!

This diwali i want to buy a hdtv and st30 42 inch was my choice...but only concern is the brightness...yesterday i checked the brightness on kohinoor showroom in mumbai and it was very low(i mean really low) specially compared to other plasmas and leds(leds no surprise)....does this tv have low brightness issues????

Leaving that this tv is perfect for me..pls share your brightness observations...i want to make a decision soon.....i ma also considering d6000 led from samsung..but somehow i dont prefer led, i watch lot of sports and movies and motion clarity for plasma is what i like...but this brightness issue is bothering me...to think otherwise....

1) is brightness an issue with st30(low)?
2)should i consider leds ex720/d6000?
3)should i wait for few more months for panasonic to release next model with more brightness?

1. Did you check the menus? What was the brightness set at?
2. At home, conditions are different (not as brightly lit as showrooms) and hence experience will be better. Reflections could be a issue. But in plasmas panasonic ST/GT/VT are the best in terms of reducing reflection.

In terms of brightness, the ST30 fares well, but please do not compare a plasma with an LED backlit LCD panel. The latter will beat any plasma hands down.
The point is, if you are inclined to buy something that looks very bright, option 2 should be your direction. Plasmas deliver natural looking pictures, just like they were intended to be shown.

Demo them side by side, and you'll notice the difference.

Hi girish1in,
Just registered on this forum a few minutes ago. My 42st30 is about a month old. wish i had accessed all this info (on hifivision) before buying, could have bargained some more. Anyways just want to share the price as i find it too good to be true after looking at the prices in some threads. 63k for 42st30 with 2x3d glasses, Logitech Kyb and 3 year warranty. (yet to receive 3d glasses, will let you know once they are in). Together with a friend bought 2 panels, my 42st30 and the other one was a panasonic 42lcd for 40k. I am from mumbai. Will reply to queries ASAP.
About brightness levels - I had read about the low brightness levels for the ST30 before buying it and now i can say for sure that it is true. However that issue is more than made up by its fantastic PQ. Just have to pull the curtains during bright sunlight.
